What goes well with Purpleheart? (other than Ebony and Maple)

Hey guys,

What do you think goes well with Purpleheart, other than the common woods like Ebony and Maple? I am very set on ordering a cue with a purpleheart nose and maple recuts, but I'm not too excited with common ebony points.

I've seen tulipwood and cocobolo matchups with PPH, but it really depends on the specific color of the actual samples used IMO. I've thought of holly, but I don't really like the pseudo-ivory notion.

Have any of you used any sort of burl with PPH? Did it come out good? Any pix for reference?

Any help will be much appreciated!

If you want grain you can use Macassar ebony. Wenge works, look at the Kikel on our site, I would think a nice brown burl would work well. Indian rosewood or boise de rose, since they have purplish hues.

Have you tried combining with another warm color?

I have made acue with purple heart and Paduak that really looked exotic. It had a very rich color scheme.

any burl will look great, amboyna, thuya....,etc, and I also like bloodwood with PH. Olivewood looks pretty neat with it too. there are several combos that Ph looks good with.

Aside from what has been already mentioned, any golden hued woods wood look real rich with purpleheart. Golden amboyna burl or golden afzelia lace/burl would make uncommon but beautiful combos (I also love the lacewood suggestion for point wood). For veneers I'd use black, light blue, a wood tone that locks onto the point wood and bleached white (especially with ivory decor) or natural white. Black/white/black/white is another simple veneer combo that would look good too.

I have a few cues on my site nearing completion with PH and Zebrawood i think its a nice combo.....Dave

....don't think there's anything that looks better with PH than a real nice piece of curly (white) maple.
