I figure a prize payout of $300K to the winner and $150K to the loser would have been a fairer scenario, especialy for one short race.Having said that, I don't think too many IPT players are complaining about their paycheques.

What happened to the best 2 out of 3 sets?

The idea about the 2 out of 3 in the finals was a rumor. I talked to a couple of the officials before the start and they said there never was a plan for 2 out of 3. People must have just assumed it from the KOH. Frankly, this was the best organized, well thought out tournament ever. And certainly the most profitable for most of the players. It came down like a written script and was the absolute perfect product to promote the sport.
I am confused, whats unfair about race to 8. Step up and play. And both did. The pressure was tremendous. I am elated about how well it came off, and I have been on the border about the IPT. The only problem Marlon had with the payday was he had to give so much to the people behind him. THAT is unfair, and I think the IPT is going to do something about it because it defeats the whole idea of these big money tournaments. These players deserve money that reflects their work and talent, and this is the first time they got it. Hohman said it was the best day of his life. I'll be in Reno, will you.

I wouldn't say "unfair" but it is a different format from the rest of the tournament where longer races and the round robin format are advocated by the IPT to find the best players. To ditch this for the Final does seem odd. It's like getting to the Stanley Cap final or the World Series and it is just one game rather than a seven game series "just for TV".
I also don't buy this short races for TV. If it is a highlights show then that is what editing is for. The World Snooker Final is a race to EIGHTEEN over two days and twelve hours play. Only the hard-core fans watch the whole match. The real 'final' is the final session of eleven frames, and 20 million in the UK stayed up till past midnight to see the ONE HOUR final frame in 1985.
It looks like a splendid tournament, and something for all of us pool fans to savour. The two best players over five days make the showpiece Final. The only pity is that the biggest match was decided by a coin toss.
No matter what the format for the finals, some would complain that it was not fair... Just appreciate the tournament for what it was worth. I agree that it could have been a longer set but what more could you ask then double hill for $350K... WOW..

I was also curious at the time because of my thoughts about the single set and, expecting a longer match, my travel plans were different along with paying more for a single set. Still the result was terrific.
It would have been 2 out of 3 sets IF it was Mike Sigel in the finals! I don't know what time the match started, but if they have a 2/3 match then start the match at 10am it should be completed at least by 2pm. Then edit it anyway they want for tv.....
The $5 entry pass to watch was a very reasonable fee to watch the event. Every player dressed professionally, conducted themselves professionally (yes, there were a couple of exceptions..) and the event was very professional. They even allowed photography (without flash) at the event. I enjoyed myself there for the 3 days I was there. I would have liked to see cue vendors and makers at the event and maybe we will see that in the future.
Note to Earl Strickland: Please, take some time off from playing pool, you need a vacation........

A little disappointed. I saw the match just now, and as Hohmann cleared his last few balls, i was waiting in anticipation for the 2nd set to start, i had no idea it was 1 set. The IPT basically PLEDGED it was going to be best of 3 sets. Really the difference in prize money needed it.

I think they're running out of time both for the media coverage and the hotel.
