What if Earl the pearl?

Having seen Earl in his prime, he had all that and more! Earl was focused and fluid, wasting no time in executing one perfect shot after another. To see him run out was a joy to behold. You couldn't help but marvel at his talent. He WAS the perfect 9-Ball player!

I was there too and I definitely agree, Jay! Efren was more creative but Earl just made _everything_ look so easy!

It's pretty apparent that some posters here are way too young to have seen anything before 2008-9.

What if Earl the Pearl?

AND Earl is STILL hittin' em pretty sporty! If he played in the bigger name tournaments (need $$$), he would be cashing~! I'd luv to see him get $$$ backed NOW and go kick some A$$....trust me, he's still got it !

Doesn't Earl have something like 5 US Opens and 4 World 9-Ball Championships? How about if you duct-tape SVB and Souquet together could you get a 9ball wizard like Earl in his prime?

I know everyone loves SVB (and for good reason - he's the top American). However, until he has 5 US Opens and 4 or more World 9balls --- the original post makes no sense.

Earl's the best modern 9-ball player (historically, record-wise in tournaments).

What bigger name tournaments does Earl not play in?

If you gave Earl in his prime; Svb's break and Ralph souquet's mental game he would be without a doubt the best EVER in my opinion!

Thoughts?

Like Keith McCready once said put those guys in my prime and obviously Earl Stricklands prime and those guys would have been statues and chair holders.

Earl in his prime would have walked all over Shane,Ralf, etc.....The thing to understand is when you have some one that had the fire power as Earl had and put 5-6-7-8-packs on you as well as God could get what ever amount of weight you wanted on any given day.

Hard to beat some one keeping seat cushions warm. One thing Earl never had to complain about was saying my ASS hurts from sitting in this chair...................

What if Earl the Pearl?

The World Pool Association (WPA) rankings for 2010 show Earl only playing in one of their world tournaments, the U.S. Open (in the U.S.). The other 5 World tournaments, Earl did NOT play in. And there are many other "world" tournaments, both in Europe, Dubai and the Philippines where he was not in attendance. The last travel abroad (to my knowledge) for Earl was to Malta last year and that was an invite to do exhibitions.

Not trying to annoy anyone by posting it but just curious as to what other hardcore pool fans think.

lol, I don't think you're annoying anyone, including me. :)

I simply never understood these hypothetical threads because they can easily be applied to almost any other top tier player with the same results. Here's an example:

What if you gave SBV Earl's shot making, Ralf's mental game, and Efren's kicking ability? Would he be the best player ever?

It's purely hypothetical, and hard to debate. Plus, it's pretty pointless.

But as you said, you're just having fun. So please continue with these gene-splicing super-player-creating threads if you so please. :p

My point

The whole reason I started this thread I guess was just to see if Earl needed any of the attributes I mentioned to dominate the pool world again as he did in the past.

I've been watching alot of Earl's early matches including the entire Color Of Money Challenge with Efren. Earl dominated this whole match until he let his emotions get the best of him(where Ralphs mental game would've helped him). When I said he needed SVB's break I just meant if he had that break he would probably be dominating 10 ball now like he did 9 ball for so many years.

Earl is one of my favorite players to watch so I mean no disrespect to him in anyway by this thread.

Earl is just Earl. Great Player, just doesnt know how to act sometimes... Let's not forget his Break and run 11 racks in a row. Just to break, pocket a ball and be able to have a shot after the break is a feat in itself. Let alone run out 11... I can never take away Earl's ability to play the game, it's a shame his personality never matched his skill for the game...He will always be thought of as one of the Greatest Players Ever....As far SVB and Ralf. if you look back when the men only had one tour, and everyone played each other, they all battled one another constantly. Today with all the different tours, some of these player never match up against each other till the US Open in October. I sooooo wish it would revert back to one single tour again..But, I know that will never happen..SVB and Ralf are the NEW greatest players on the playground now, the changing of the guard you might say. They have a long way to go to achieve some of the accomplishments such as Buddy Hall, The Miz, Earl, Johnny Archer, just to mention a few. Im sure they will in time.

I think those guys would love to have been in his shoes in those days. And ...if " IF " was a skiff we could all go boating.

Oh yea and spideywebb missed a couple of world championships for the mighty Earl as it is 5 US Opens and 6 World Championships. Earl is about 10 years younger than Efren so he should still be winning and I hope he can get back on track this year at the Open.--Leonard --who stills loves to watch the best living NC player by far Earl.

You have waaaaay too much free time and obviously don't know Earl in his prime.
MULLY

Read the previous posts....I said I never had the pleasure to watch Earl in his prime except for what I've watched on the computer. Also, you must have waaaaaay too much free time to have damn near 4,000 posts....
