There are plenty of places in this big country with no carom tables within any reasonable driving distance. So how do we expect to keep the spark alive if new potential players can't even try out what they read about and watch?

I don't know about the simulator mentioned in the article, but the carom game in Virtual Pool (IV) is accurate enough to simulate all the shots in the artistic carom program including the jump shots. There are on-line competitions at the pool version of Virtual Pool but they don't seem to be very active, or at least the comment area is not active.
