I'd say the LD shaft has probably been the most profitable innovation for the industry since the two piece cue....

The jump cue for better or worse (depending on which side of the line you stand on) has drastically changed the game!...

Cloth has come a long ways from the "nap cloth" stuff but that's kind of yesteryears progress...

The template rack has changed the game giving more consistent results on the break....in my mind this is one of the big reasons for the high level of play we see today.

For pool fans the live stream is fantastic!...

Earls arm and leg weights haven't caught on yet but that javelin of a cue he's shooting with has...seeing more and more players shooting with extended cues all the time!

That's an easy question with only one answer....the internet.

Think about it....all the marketing of magic shafts, tips, chalk, etc.....the sales of this stuff would take ages longer without the touts on the web.

The action reports, knocking, tournament results, more knocking.....and never ending replies about what you need to make a ball has provided the unwary surfer with tons of bad...misinformed...my way only...type of info.

It's bad enough going to the pool hall and asking a few questions....which might or might not point someone in the right direction. But cyberspace spots all that the last 6 and the breaks.

An innovation that has revolutionized pool is the measles cue ball.

Getting feedback on every stroke as to whether the desired spin has been applied to the cue ball is incredibly valuable for both players and instructors.

The development of better extensions for cues. Middle or end, either method has been improved upon by mainstream and custom makers in a big way. For larger humans such as myself, this is a boon.

But I voted for the Live Streaming grinders out there that bring us incredible content year after year. Heroes.

Honestly, I don't really feel like the game has changed significantly since we moved away from clay/ivory balls. I guess just having the internet so it's easy to watch pros online and learn from them, especially for strategy games like 14.1.

I think this post sums it up quite nicely....
...except for one thing...
..it's not FELT...
...IT'S CLOTH

I'm sorry I yelled....:o

Cloth

The question is pretty vague. I said cloth. I did so because i was thinking of the on-table effects of change and not the overall aspects of pool in general. I remember when Simonis760 first started showing up. WOW. The game changed drastically due to the speed and non-directional aspects. It was TOO fast actually and thankfully Simonis brought out 860 which is about perfect. LD shafts and layered tips, while helping some players, haven't brought a sea-change to the game the way the new cloth did.
