What is a "Short Spliced Point"?

C'mon, really?

"Why would anyone be willing to use their precious time to help?"
Because someone asked for it. Why else? For some people this is human nature. And because this section is called, "Ask the Cuemaker"

And lastly, if Murray Tucker makes cues I am far more inclined to deal with someone who is helping me now, going out of his way to help a stranger, than someone who doesn't help. As any good businessman knows, everyone is a potential customer. And we act accordingly.

Yes really.........! Did you even try the search feature? I didn't think so.

Did you even try answering the question before belittling it? I didn't think so.

Dave, of course I tried the "search" function. Why else would I have asked the question? 110 returns on the search. Most were cues for sale or talking about building methods, but I couldn't find any specifically explaining the actual process or definition of a "short splice point." That's why I decided to "ask the Cuemaker."

I don't understand the immediate rush to cynicism and judgement. It's an honest question with no ill intentions.

Thanks for those who helped me.

On a side note, I learned not to do business with barenbrugger cues.

i dont really understand why your getting on daves case? how would you like to have a section where the same questions are constantly asked over and over like groundhogs day??

your question was answered with a more than adequete link, which supplied you with more info than you could have asked for, for this i would be gratefull.

i wasnt joking earlier when i said replies like this are why the more known cue makers no longer comment on here, maybe in the near future there wont be anyone to ask.

Hey Dude or Dudette, which ever it is.... don't shoot the messenger. I was just trying to help you out and you're the one that gets all up in it. If you read what is written I did apologize in advance if you had used the search button and was unsuccessful in your search. Evidently you didn't apply the correct filters if you were getting all the info that was of no help. Sorry for you. Next time you ask a question maybe someone more qualified than me will step up and hold your hand.
Good luck with your future questions. Over and out..........

Copy and Paste all that info when it already took a considerable amount of time to present it.

Wow, I can't believe that you weren't grateful to be able to read it let alone
expecting anything else.

Unfortunately, this is the type of hand holding and baby sitting that I was referring to.

True, but it was available on another forum. Sorry it wasn't here on your demand. The Inter Web is a big place. Sometimes a person gets to travel.

We will make note of your preferences the next time you post. Sorry for inconveniencing you today.

Sorry for not having the habit of clicking (and registering!) to a random site that is linked by a random guy on the Inter Web and not being grateful about it. If you do this all the time, I can't even imagine what kind of junk you have in your computer. If you think it's no big deal, you have no idea what the "Inter Web" is!

Responses like this are why people are posting less and less here.

And when they do, they just link off-site that requires registration

I now see exactly the reason why people post less and less here. For one, I'll make this my last post on this forum. Sorry if I offended anybody.

Firstly, I got on Dave's case because the only contribution to this thread he offered was sarcasm. If you don't have anything worthwhile to contribute, why bother contributing at all? Seriously. I can't understand the logic behind it. Especially as a business owner. That's mind boggling. How is this a good decision?

If you're genuinely tired of the same question being asked over and over, then don't answer it. Wouldn't that be the best way to handle it? It's better than posting some obtuse remark.

Side note: I still can't find where the question "what is a short splice point" has been asked over and over.

And I know you weren't joking when you said that replies like that are why cuemakers no longer comment on here, but take a look at the replies some of the "cuemakers" made to this thread. It's hardly worth asking the question in the first place. And it's like kryptonite for sales. Can't make any money being belligerent to members simply because you don't like a question.

It's unbelievable that anyone trying to sell anything on this site would have anything other than a professional, helpful, understanding attitude towards other members. Dave maligned Murray for being the only one that would take the time to answer my question...take a lesson from Murray. That's how you treat people. That's how you generate sales. That's how you instill faith and trust in a customer.

I'll leave this post. I got my answer. And I learned that one "cuemaker" is not worth my business. I won't post anything else on this thread as it's gone nowehere, but I do hope anyone considering buying a cue reads this post to the end and takes notes. Spend your money wisely folks!

Lan Admin and Technician. Least I was until I got rather bored with it. No junk, just an efficient PC. Try Again.

All you would have had to do is take off the last part of the URL and you would have been left with JimbosArmy.com.
You could have clicked on enter and then realized it was only a Message board like this one. You don't need to register to read the board, but you do if you want to post or read the Ask The Cue Maker forum.
Or, instead of getting all P issy, you could have asked, What is Jimbo's Army.

And when they do, they just link off-site that requires registration

In this case, Murray offered you some of the best material available, several extensive articles including pictures that were worth a thousand words. Not only what a Half Splice is (Half, not short) but full splice, 2 types of veneer techniques that are used with either Half and Full splice cues. Also, Recut points which is also a way of doing points and making them look like veneers.

If you had have searched for either Half or Short Splice in the Ask the Cue Maker forum (This is a filter and an option) using the Search function.
You would have found 3 threads on the first page, 2 on the next and 3 on the 3rd page. Any of those threads would have answered your question most thoroughly.

However, Murray's was still the best articles. He is not known as Master Tucker or Master Murray for nothing, ya know.

Consider that today is a holiday and maybe some of the regulars that answer weren't hanging by the computer waiting to answer questions today.

Also, many of the Cue Makers that do answer are busy, (you know, making cues and doing repairs). They eventually get to the forum. Sometimes you have to wait for your answer, you can't snap your fingers and they come running.

From the time that you asked and the time Murray answered, I would say that was pretty quick.

To sum it up, when you and the other poster got antsy and snotty, of course there was a lack of other makers answering. Both of you made it worth their while to not show up.

Part of the trick is in how you ask the question, show respect and express appreciation in whatever answer you do get by saying thanks.

But sorry for inconveniencing both of you little Buck Shots.
You get back what you put into this forum.
Hope the door didn't bruise your sensitive little behinds when leaving.

Oh, I see. You want Murray to take the time to show you all that you are looking for and then want him to take the time to copy and paste all of the articles and pictures to another forum because you don't want to take the time to register. Do you also have your wife cut up your steak because it is to much of an effort to do it yourself? This cue makers forum has become a joke from people wanting to be spoon fed every tidbit of information. Can no one do anything on their own anymore?

Dick

Where's Dale when you need him? :)

Very helpful! Thank you! A picture is worth a thousand words.

I'm sorry if you feel that my scorn was directly aimed toward you but it was toward the other fellow. Some questions are asked over and over again so as to be a nuisance but I, myself, usually just ignore that thread. In your thread's case however Murray posted a great link, in fact, a complete tutorial on half/splice cues, what they look like and how they are built.

What upset me and really hit a nerve was the responder who complained that he had to do something more than just lean back in his easy chair to attain this knowledge. He wanted someone else to hand feed him or maybe send him a DVD as it would be to much of an effort on his part to register. He in a later post stated that he wasn't the one who asked the question but he was wanting to learn the information or he wouldn't have followed Murray's link. There used to be some very good cue makers on this forum freely giving out very credible information, learned through experience. Most have give up and the few that are left don't post nearly like they used to just because of all the b/s that occurs. You probably have never heard of Dave Barrenbrugger only because his cues are never on the open market. He's one of the top butterfly cue builders in the world and it would be hard to get on his list to acquire one of his cues if you could even afford one. Once someone gets one his cues they don't leave their collection.

If Dave gives you a tip on how to do something you can take it to the bank as correct way to do it because it means that he has learned that technique through trial and error and not just from hearsay that you get usually get from most other responders on this forum.

This would be your loss. Dave is first class as well as Dick Neighbors. And they don't know me at all. However, I have talked to too many of their happy customers and been humbled by plenty of their work to never question their integrity or ability.
