What is the best book about different woods, as it pertains to cue making? I was reading "Know you woods" by Constantine yesterday but it was published in 1959 and does not have colored pictures....since I do not think color was invented yet.

A good basic book that touches on Tropical hardwoods is Identifying Hardwoods , by Hoadley and published by Taunton.

Stay away from The Encyclopedia of Wood, it is comprehensive but I did not find it anywhere near as helpful as Hoadley's book.

I am sure there are others, and I am interested to know what other books, mainly about Tropical Hardwoods , will be suggested in answer to your post.

IMHO - it is the same exact book for all subjects from quilting to Particle Physics.

The title is:

"Logon to the Internet and go to Google"

Dale<better than the Library at Alexandria>

I use ;

"The real wood bible"
and
"World woods in color"

Book nr1 has much nicer pics, nicer to read since it has a spiral metal binding
in the back which makes it so easy to open the pages and it lasts...
Pics of the wood is done with %50 of the wood sealed with clear
and the other part "normal" wood.

Book 2 is as you can see mentioned by many - but not as crisp pics, however
have a OK table in the back showing the recommended use of the different species.

I use both since they complement them self - and have had me very rarely
put in front of the Mac for a Google exercise.
