What is the best ferrule material

Hello ,

Can someone enlighten me on the difference in ferrule material, why is ivory better and is juma a plastic . is there a decent cheaper ferrule that a lot of people use, maybe Juma as I see that a lot. Trying to further my education in the pool cue market. Thanks

how do you want your cue to hit and sound?

Hea

Heard nothing but good things about Tomahawk, not sold on Keilwood.
The guy who made this shaft for me did everything I asked for, and more!! 32" of tight, straight grained, torrified maple w a one inch Tom Tom on it.
We debated back and forth over which ferrule material to use. I wanted ivory, of course, but that's too much trouble w state lines and all that. Didn't wanna ask this poor soul to possibly break the law for me. Anyhoo, I'm the one who finally pulled the trigger on the Tomohawk and it has a sweet solid hit and plenty of feedback as well. Love how this shaft rings out!!
I didn't think Kielwood had much feel or feedback to it. More like CF.
Perhaps the length of this shaft has something to do w it.
I'm still banging away trying to figure out the nuances of this ol' girl.
Might take some time for me to really get to know her. That's ok.
Like I always say...
"The more Racks, The Merrier"!!!

Btw... For those of you interested in which AZ member made this shaft for me, check out Mike81. Helluva good guy and imo, master craftsman and woodworker!!
The Taper I wanted on this shaft was over 14" long, as my bridge length is very long. IDK how he pulled it off and still managed to keep it at exactly 13mm!!! Perhaps custom makers do this all the time, but it seemed Mike went above and beyond on that one for my dumb ass. Lol.😂

On the premise that a ferrule is only to keep the wood from smashing - and more recently, add some deflection, clear Lexan would be fine - and cool looking. Joint too...

So where are the CF ferrules?
That's a good question!!
Since cf is so valued for LD qualities and all that, why isn't it used for for ferrules?? You'd think someone would've jumped on that bandwagon long ago if it was suitable for ferrules. If not, it begs the question, why??
Does CF lose strength in shorter sections?? Would cf ferrules need to be thicker than standard cf tubes??
Cost preventative, etc...??

When Gorst signed on with Cuetec, he had the white ferrules on the Cynergy swapped out for something black.
At the time, rumor was the material was carbon fiber but that may have just been speculation.
I could not keep the butter-soft white ferrules clean, so I had them all replaced with tomahawk.
I could not be happier.

They were juma. It comes in black. Other manufacturers may offer colors other than white as well. Some players believe you sight the shot better w black ferrule.
In that case, I need to get me some!! Lol.😁

Might be the sanding although they could certainly be manufactured in house.
