Just curious... I use a Kamui Black Soft on my pool cue, but I'm wondering if there is a popular option for carom cues.

What do most pro's use and what tip works best for you guys?

there was a poll of pro carom players that someone posted here that had info about tips, tip size, taper, etc.

iirc, moori was a pretty common choice

So then I'll assume that there isn't much difference between pool and carom as far as tip choice goes.. I played 3-cushion with my pool cue and had a chunk of my kamui to break off the side so I was questioning layered tips for carom but I admittedly have an affinity for stroke and draw shots that require me to hit the ball with excessive force.

I use the moori, mostly because it doesn't mushroom out as easy and doesn't squish down to nothing very fast. Probably most any decent layered tip would work just as well.

I play balkline & straight rail with kamui black soft , got one shaft with super soft, used when i play on tables with hot new cloth.
For 3 cushions I use kamui black medium.
An Elkmaster on my masse shaft .

Hey guys! Have the same question here! I used to play with moori M and loved it, but some time ago I needed a tip and I only had kamui black M for choice. Strait away I felt more miss shots and the tip seems like glass (don't stick to my chalk) do you noticed anything like this? Few months ago after playing a week with that tip I've changed it to moori M and it was much better till the more broke some layers, sent it back for the cue guy to put another, when it came back for my surprise he used a kamui black again, even after I told him that I hated it. (maybe he forgot) now I have kamui black M again and my confidence in some shots os low because im afraid it miss shot hagahahhs soo much waisted money where can I see that list about the tips of the pro players? Thanks a Lot!
See ya!

If I recall from one of the USBA telephone interviews that Steve Anderson does the Belgium Three cushion player Eddy Merckx said he used a soft layered tip for 3C. I personally like playing with layered medium tips.

Thanks a lot! I never played with SS or S or H only M really don't know the feeling of it, need to try it! By the way do you know where I can find the list refereed above about the material the pro's use?
Thank you!

I sell a lot of HH Ultras to the guys at my poolhall and they love them.
Very good 3c players.

Keep in mind the Kamui Black tips play about 1 hardness level harder than advertised. So your Kamui Black M is really a hard tip, which is why the need for scuffing, that "glass" feeling, etc. Some people like that, but most play with a soft or medium tip, which would equate to a Kamui SS or S.

I played with a Kamui Black Medium for a while, and it was just a tad too hard for me, felt I needed to keep it chalked very well, scuff to keep from glazing, etc. When I dropped to a S, it was a bit too soft. So now I use a soft and just shave 1 or 2 layers off, then right away it plays awesome without any sort of squishy feeling that you might get initially.

Of course, this is a personal preference thing, just trying to give you feedback on those tips. These are the tips I use for pool, I'm going to be getting a Longoni carom cue myself and not sure what type of tip I will end up with. May try whatever they come with (Fuji?) and just replace if I don't like it and experiment a bit.

I am somewhat new to 3c, but I have been doing cue work for 20 years+. Last week I got a few Kamikazi tips and installed a soft, and a super soft on 2 of my OB2 shafts for 3c. Both work well and I am leaning towards the SS tip myself. For the cost Kamikazi is a GREAT value/product...it seems I can keep the tip on the bigger 3c balls longer with a softer tip. JMHO.

On the same note as above poster....I also blasted off a piece of an older Talisman soft tip last week playing 3c....shame of it is a section of the ferrule came with it!.....it is my fault for not having a Kevlar pad under the tip I think. So, now I am experimenting with turning down the OB2 and putting on Corian as a short soft ferrule material. Worked on another cue I tested years back.

have fun,

G.

Hello. I know i'm late about this matter, but anyway i'm going to leave my opinion. I've played with Moori medium hardness tips, and they were very good tips, but now i have my doubts about if they have the same quality. I've played with the black S Kamui, personally i'm not a fan, but lots of players loves them. I now play with Victory medium tips, and for me it's the tip. I understand they are a "bit" expensive, but i don´t care, the confidence that they give me worth the money. Am i the only one thinking this way.

Best regards for all
