Excluding the loser pays the time!! Today I witnessed a bunch of older guys playing a 4 handed ring game of 9 ball for get this.... 10 cents on the 5 and 10 cents on the 9 ball

I heard that the stakes were raised since yesterday from 5 or the 5 and 10 on the 9 :lol::lol:

I couldn't believe that a bunch of guys would play for, literally, Nickels and dimes. Jokingly I said I was gonna go to my car to get my change purse and bust all of them :lol:

Once at Hollywood Billiards in San Francisco I saw Philipino Gene playing a crack head for a rock of crack. After each game one of them would slide the rock to the other guy.

So what are your stories of cheap sets or playing for a set of tennis rackets. Just plain and weird. Would love to hear them.

Ive played a four handed ring game with friends for a quarter on the five and 50 cents on the nine but we were getting free pool at the local poolhall at the time.

is Philipino Gene still alive, i remember him from back in the day. he must be 90 if he is alive,

we played 25/50 cents on the 5&9 a few weeks ago in a 3 and 4 handed ring game, the table time was 4 times what i won and i robbed that game, how sad is that? it was fun tho i like ring games.

I played 9 ball for a bag of potato chips and a glass of orange juice, per game. I was playing for fun and the guy said you can't shoot at all. So that is when we started playing for the goodies. I had the table next to the pool table full of orange juice and bags of potato chips.

He then said he must have gotten out of stroke, and quit. I tried to tell him I got lucky. And that I could not make a ball!
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

I played 3 sets with Mike Dechaine for 50 total, probably the cheapest 30+ games you can get with a pro gambling ;)

Weirdest game I've ever been in: marriage

Cheapest game I've ever been in: I used to play my best friend a race to 11 every day for $1.00

Years ago an "old timer" neighbor used to come over and tried to get us to play weird games of 8 ball. 1st pocket you put your ball in is where you have to put the 8 ball, or before the break, you had to pick a pocket you would put the 8 ball in, or the 8 ball had to be a bank shot. If it was just the 2 of us, I would humor him and play, but if we had 4 players it would extend the games too much. I miss old Jack McNeil (he passed away 9 years ago). He was always a good pool player, and I never figured out why he didn't prefer straight pool.

Haha that's funny. I once played jokingly for about 0.20 USD(20 cents) XD.
I tried to relax and keep my cool and I pulled through that high stake game. Now I'm rich. haha

I've had an idea for a while now for a full-on "gaffe pool" ring game. This was inspired by some of the ignorant betting I saw growing up in southeastern, KY.

For example, I saw a guy shark someone by urinating across the room into a spittoon once. I would like to see a ring game with this type of sharking again.

sammich

I do remember winning a 9 ball race to 3 back in college (82-83), my $2 vs a used movie ticket stub... The ticket stub was good for a roast beef sandwich at the cafeteria.

A cheap(understatement) guy I played with.. you know the kind. Would show up, get a beer(on your tab) and never have any real money. Even when we'd finish up and he'd owe me a few bucks, it was soon forgotten. I just forgot about it because I figured it would never see my pocket anyhow.

So, we were playing the same thing.. playing 5 and 9, I got 10c a piece and he got 10 for the 5 and 20c for the 9.

After a few years, gave up on him. It got real old having to buy somebody else's beer or give them a few bucks for quarters or whatever. If he was 21 I'd be a bit more sympathetic, but not from a 40 year old that's living at his baby-mama's mama's house.

Weirdest game: Every Saturday our group plays "poker pool". You get a five-card poker hand, 15-ball rotation, first to clear the table of his cards wins (ace=1-ball, jack=11-ball, and so on, 14 and 15 are neutral balls).

It's more a game of luck than skill since 99% of the outcome is determined by how "low" a hand you are dealt.

The advantage is that up to 10 people can play on one table. Of course, you wait 5 minutes between shots and you're usually buried behind a group of balls, but it's a good social game for a large group.

It's also a cheap game. We each bet $1 and you have to win two "hands" to win the pot.

A pub owner asked me to explain 3of his guests snooker. I had a good amount of beers.
A guy , a well known hustler comes in. Me at the table. Cb 1feet from corner pocket, aiming for long pot at blue.
Hustler; 20 for 100 that u miss.......
Me, being still down: yes, and firing it in.
He, bit pissed: wanna bet another 5trys? Each 50 for 200?

I agreed ;-)
Making the first 2 attempts successfully.......and the guy throws 300 on the table and went away.lol
This has been nice 5 minutes ;-)

...what a hustlet...lmao

Playing against my GF in 8 ball, I'd give her 3 innings to my one. Race to 3 for... the most sexually deviant thing you wanted. Man oh man, did I go to sleep that night with a sh1t eating grin. :grin-square:

I walked into Jammers years ago after work for a quick one
before I went home..five guys where playing cut throat..Allen
an Joe are the only two I knew..any Joe say hey..you wanna
play..I say sure with a look on my face as to say..what have I
just been roped into here..heres the jest of it..every one put fifty
cents in a shot glass..divide the balls up the best you can..yeah..lol.
doesn't matter laughs Allen..everyones names on the broad
with their balls he says..you get one shot apeice..only play with
your balls he roars..if you knew Allen Scales this is funny..the
guy couldn't get threw five minutes of conversation with out
laughing..but any..one shot at time..until you have a winner..
oh...and winner pay to drop the balls..an you still have to
put up fifty cents for the next game...I sure miss Allen..love
you guy.
The good ones go to soon.

Three friends and I have a weekly 10 ball ring game at one of our houses for fifty cents on the 5,7,10. When we go to the pool hall and actually have to pay for the table, it actually goes up to dollar a ball. But we have so much fun there are usually have three to five people waiting to buy into the game. Charbel's in Salem, VA. Not weird just a good time

My friend plays a pretty good game one handed. One night he got drunk and really wanted to play me for money. I declined so he said he would play one handed and I could play two handed. That lasted exactly one game.

I once watched a five teenagers play a ring game of one dollar 9 ball. After the game ended one of the players told me that he and three of the other players were conspiring against the fifth player and each was pocketing $0.25 per game. The poor victim lost $22 and was busted.

Another insane game was a beautiful hustle by John Ferber of Gainesville, FL. Ferber talked a used car dealer into betting against John playing the 9 ball ghost. Ferber made the rules so that he would only lose on the third miss. Also any scratch counts as one miss but gives Ferber ball in hand for the next shot. Ferber made the game look difficult and lost the first three after which he won approximately 25 games in a row and pocketed a couple of thousand.

Is there any place in the world more entertaining than a pool hall?
