I hate to write anything in a bad light about any player, especially an American veteran pool player, but I have a funny story about Jeanette Lee and Keith McCready. :grin-square:
Well, it actually wasn't too funny at the time for Keith.
Jeanette was a relatively unknown at the time, but she was making her way around the pool circuit. She wasn't married and was playing pool 24/7. Though her game was strong, it wasn't quite as strong as it is today.
In Vegas, I think it was, for whatever reason, Keith began to bark at Jeanette about gambling. Maybe it was slim pickings on action folks, and Jeanette looked like an easy game. Who knows!
Keith had to give her a HUGE spot. I can't remember what it was at the time of this writing, but it was LARGE. Keith had a backer, and so the sky was the limit on the stakes.
Well, to make a long story short, Jeanette busted Keith and his stakehorse for five figures. I can find out the exact amount later, but I remember it being pretty hefty.
After all the barking by Keith, Jeanette was loving it, feeling mighty good about defeating this loud mouth. Keith walked up to her and asked her for a jelly roll, to which she flatly declined.
This was a very long time ago, but Keith has a long memory when it comes to getting jelly rolls. Fast forward to the year 2006, and we ran into Jeanette at the Turning Stone Casino. I was snapping pictures left and right of all the great players in attendance at the Joss event.
I wanted to get a picture of Jeanette, but when I looked over at her booth, she was busy signing autographs. She saw me standing there with my camera. I am not sure if she knew who I was, but she suddenly looked up and smiled at me. I then got my nerve up and politely asked that if she got a free moment, I'd love to have a picture of her and Keith.
She stopped what she was doing, right then and there, and said, "I'd be happy to let you take a picture of me and Keith. Let's do it right now." We went outside, and I got this picture. Keith seemed to enjoy it, and his memory of not getting that jelly roll seemed to go away. He's never mentioned it since, though I do wonder what was going on in his head when I was snapping this photo.
