What is the first thing to go?

When you are having a tough time, under pressure or just not shooting well what is the first thing about your game or stroke that goes?

For me, it's in my backswing. When I'm shooting well I have a pretty pronounced pause, when I get under pressure, tired or just generally sucking (very often) I am almost always not pausing.

Just curious, no real question here - I know to just keep enforcing my PSR and keep putting myself into pressure situations will resolve it.

I find I tend to bend my right wrist outward, on my non bridge hand, when I stroke. And of course I've gotten away from my PSR.

Dropping my elbow during the stroke. Due to arthritis in my neck, my stance is a bit unconventional and I have to work hard keep my elbow "up." If I'm not thinking about it, or get lazy, the elbow will drop early in the stroke...with bad results.

Good stuff, I like hearing about them - it's giving me more to pay attention to and ***** about my stroke, lol.

I think it's crazy how I also will sometimes just start one stroking it, or just in general how easily things break down that we've probably done 10,000 times or more.

I didn't even believe that I wasn't pausing until I video'd myself.. The tape doesn't lie.

For me it's grip and speed. Both increase with my frustration. Of course that has a ripple effect and throws a lot of other things off.

When I catch myself at it I concentrate on "pocket speed" to try to get back on.

For me it is the exact same thing, mainly. Sometimes I also raise up. Worst part is I usually don't figure these things out until I am headed home thinking back about why I was shooting so poorly.

Same here, I play league and I'm starting to ask my teammates to watch out for that pause thing and give me a heads up between innings... We'll see how that works out - I'm not sure it's going to help much as it seems so unconscious.

For me it was all those things...speed control, inconsistent psr, elbow drop, lifting up, no pause after backswing, elbow twist, grip tightening....problem is that it started at the beginning of a session and went down hill from there. I had a session with Scott Lee a few weeks ago and he showed me all those things and proved it with video. He's a great teacher.
I try to think of all those issues during PSR and I'm getting better but sometimes I realize I've slipped into a bad habit or two after a miss. That is when is when I evaluate why I missed and the light goes on .

Videoing myself got me out of a major slump. I was rushing thru way to many shots. I've worked it out on 90% of my shots, but spme of the tough high pressure shots I tend to divert back bad form.

I have similar experience. Here is a link to CSI Presents Dr.Cue: Essential Mechanics #5 Isolation Training, which provides a good way to practice to make the pause part of your muscle memory.

When my game is a lil off, I check the pockets. I swear they must be moving when the object ball gets close to it.... or maybe the table isn't level and the ball rolled off?
Sometimes I look at my cue to see if it's warped or maybe the tip is glazed over?

I'm pretty sure it's one of the above cause I know it's not my fundamentals
I haven't missed a ball in 10 years ;)
