What is the most times (in a row) you have seen a player win a weekly tournament?

A couple years back, I won the tournament at Jimmy's in Orlando 46 out of 52 weeks for the year.. I was winning every week so I started keeping track. :)

Prior to that, my best run was winning every tournament in Orlando (four a week at various establishments) for a period of about 5 months..
This included monthly's and weekly events.. Good times.

Wow, 46 out of 52 weeks. Did you have any competition at all during that year? Was it ever close in the finals? That is really awesome.

In my mind , a trophy is only special if it came from a really big event (big enough, that they have the winners name engraved in it). Now that might be a trophy that would have great value to you.

you do know, the really big events, and the really small events, do not engrave your name on the trophy, right?

And the reason why? they don't know who is going to win but they have to hand you the check and trophy after the match. they usually don't have engravers on stand by ;)

This may seem like a silly post, but just curious to hear some stories about the most times you have seen a local player (or non local) win your local weekly tournament?

If it is a handi capped tournament, then they will usually just keep raising your handi cap, until you have to give up so much weight, that it is too hard for you to win anymore.

And if it is an open tournament (without handi caps), then they might ban you from the tournament after you have won it so many weeks in a row.

Just curious how many times you have seen a player win a weekly tournament in a row, before they either lost, or deemed too good, and banned (I understand this is probably very rare).

I have never heard of a player winning a weekly event (that was a very popular weekly tournament with very good turn outs) for more then 2 or 3 times in a row.

Thanks for any good stories that you can think of to post about.

I once won a local (Pasadena tournament 8 or 9 times in a row. Did a 4-peat in Bellflower before too.

The Bellflower room is a hardcore room, so nobiggie, but the Pasadena room had rumors of barring me after 2-3 weeks. Lol

Played a weekly 8 ball tournament a few years ago, usually only about 12-15 people, that I won 7 or 8 times in a row.

I don't know how many in a row there were, but I know in the 80s, and early 90s, Players Family Billiards, in Columbus Ohio, had a weekly 10 dollar 8 ball Sunday tournament, on 4x8s, and a guy named Danny Tater, won it almost every week for all those years
It usually had about 36 players, and anybody could play!
The only tougher weekly tournament I ever saw, was in Dayton Ohio, when Jason Miller Gary Spaeth, Steve Cook , Frank Ruby, Joe Brown, The Chief and about 10 guys a ball or so behind them, played in a 10 dollar weekly tournament .
That is where Alex Olinger, and Billy Thorpe got their education.

Back in 2005 when I first met George "Ginky" San Souci, Tony Robles introduced me to Ginky and said that he had won 21-23??? tri state tournaments in a row. THat's the strongest of any regional tour that I ever heard about.

I never won a big event that would be special enough for a name engraving, but I just assumed a name engraving would be warranted on anything like a state, or national championship for example.

My home room, I grew up playing in was called Rack and Roll. It was connected to a BW3's. It had 13-14 Brunswick 8fters and 4Gold Crown's.

Slow cloth, dead rails and huge pockets...on both the 8fters and 9fters.

Weekly tournament was on Tuesdays, handicapped 3-8, 9 ball winner breaks. $8 dollar entry...limited to 32 players...Started by 6 and if you didnt sign up by 3-4 pm you couldnt get in....

Paid $100, $52, $20, $20 and then 5-8 got $8.....took $1 dollar for table time. If we didnt know you, you started as a 5 and if you got in the finals you went up 1 handicap...If you lost without coming in the money 4 weeks in a row you went down 1.

I played in this for years..

I had 3 streaks of winning it 8 weeks in a row....

And my highest was I won it 14 weeks in a row (splits count) and of course I was an 8.

I also played any human that came in the door on Table 1. ZERO road players ever came in there and beat me, and most got broked quick, or found out they coulndt win cause the table was slow and you needed a stroke. I beat Manny Chau or (Javier) as they called him when he came in with Ike Runnels and Buffalo Jason.. I busted Jason at $50 a game 9 ball and he left his leather jacket there on accident.

Being hospitable like we are in Cincy, he came back hours later to get it and it was untouched.

I played at least the 7 better on an 8fter and at least the 7 worse on a Diamond back then. I dont play anymore but 2 fun tournys a year, but I have a 9ft Diamond and couldnt imagine ever going back to the slow Gold Crown.

Many posters here were RACK and ROLL regulars and can vouvh for me....Also a few were there the night of Chau and Buffalo..

Side note this weekly tourny had some killers cause I would win so much, good players handicaps would go down and also had some Cincy legends play every week who were good players
