What is the motivation for private ID on e-bay?

There Are Two Reasons In My Opinion That Sellers Keep The Id's Private.

1) So They Can Shill Bid On Their Own Item To Drive The Price Up

2) The Seller Doesn't Want Someone Selling A Similar Cue To Contact Their Bidders. I Have Been Contacted By Guys Claiming They Have The Same Cue For Sale As The One I'm Bidding On, And They Offer Me The Cue At A Lower Price Than My Bid. Most Of The Time It's A Scam, But I Have Also Picked Up Some Real Bargains Buying Cues That Way.

Just My 2 Cents.

I'm not an expert on e-bay but I don't understand the need for private buyer ID.

By the way, nice looking older Schon.

So nobody can contact the bidders to tell them that Schon is missing half the buttcap, the finish is straight out of Tijuana, and the inlays are rounded and popping out like a whack -a -mole! :D

I don't like the idea at all. It leads me to wonder if there is shill bidding taking place.

I thought of the shill bidding but hadn't thought about people contacting the buyers. I've never been contacted, guess that's because I've been bidding on cheap stuff that nobody cares about.

Thanks
