I've never watched or even paid attention to one pocket but I'd like to broaden my horizon.

What's the holy grail of one-pocket match available on youtube that you'd recommend someone to watch to "get" the game and appreciate it?

Thanks

Sigel vs ervilino in Philly 91 iirc

Let me look it up. The commentary is as good as the match it’s long and great

Here:

Johnny Ervolino vs. Mike Sigel* (DVD) | 1991 Legends Of One Pocket - Philadelphia Style

That’s the match

for watching pleasure or for learning the game?

i began learning when efren, cliff joyner, shannon daulton were the names. great era, imo. the further back you go the more defensive the game was, and that's not a bad thing for learning to play the game (unless you're a 700 fargo).

for viewing pleasure and modern one pocket i'd say orcullo vs chohan in california. money match, race to 40, excellent match:

Efren vs. Jason Miller, Alex Pag. at '06 DCC. Accu-stats #D8-1p3. These two matches show ER at the height of his powers. Some fantastic skills on display.

Billy Incardona says at the end that it was the “best one pocket match I’ve ever watched”. But, what does he know?

If you can find it, you'll really enjoy Scott Frost vs Earl Strickland in the final of the Derby City 1-pocket event. I believe it was in 2010,

There are many Efren Reyes One Pocket matches on youtube, and in my opinion they demonstrate Efren's unique ability to play amazing defense until his opponent allows the immediate shift to offense (seems Efren's offense has slipped a bit with his increasing age).

Look at my post in the "does one pocket" thread

These 2 usually make very good decisions.

Efren playing most folks is pretty lame though.

He only really shined when his opponent shot back and he shined real brightly when he had to figure out how to beat a better pocketer than he.
