Hey everyone I was just curious as to what the progressions was of this.

I mean do you just wake up one morning and say hey I think Ill play professionally today and then boom you're a pro?

Is it a series of tournaments or qualifiers for certain tours?

I am just curious because I know the women have the WPBA.

Hypothetically if i was to become a professional what would I have to do. Other than play lights out all the time lol.

Thanks was just curious.

Also is it even worth it anymore for some because of the lack of money involved at this point?

Thanks

Join the organization and pay your dues....you are a pro....SPF=randyg

no you join nothing.theres actually no such thing as a pro card. theres technically no such thing as a pro player.just guys who play better than the rest.hopefully when you pay your entry your one of them.

Could not have been said any better. End of Thread!!:groucho:

I chase this Pro title right now. I have been trying to figure it out. Here is my insight.

I consider my self ProAm, ouse to be a pro in pool all you need to do is play in pro opens. You may be in a pro tour but your not pro. Right? Well here is the path im following.

If you ahve a tour near you that is at the top of the echellon?

For me its the Kim white predator tour or the Fast Eddies olhausen tour. If you can win one of these events or place well then maybe your pro quality but to be pro status you need to do well in the series for the whole year maybe 1,2,3rd in the points after 1 season. This was Brandon Schuff's way of thinking, I like it.

The other BCA way is to go to nationals get ranked master then grand master after that enter a $500 dollar event and win it. Then you are considered pro. I forgot where I got this info but it seems like it holds water.

So bottom line enter high entry fee tournaments get out there have fun and see how it all unfolds.

heres the road...

enter a few pro/am tourneys. if you cant win there dont even think about it...

after that pay your money and play... good luck

You need to put yourself out there. Step up and play some open tourney's and gamble with the best players you can, all the while taking it seriously (ie. not just be playing for S&G's). Obviously if it is your first foray's into the top echelon you can't expect to dominate or neccessarily win, it should be a learning experience.

I don't think a professional in any sport has ever turned pro without considerable experience playing at a top level, you have to know that you have a game that is competitive. The only way to know that, and obtain it, is through competition. I know that Ronnie O'Sullivan had been playing in amateur tourney's and had won pro-ams as teenager, he also won the World under-21 championship. By the time he turned professional he already had the experience, confidence and ability to compete with the best. I think he won something like his first 40 matches as a professional.

In most individual sports there are amateur competitions (non-handicapped, imagine that) along with pro-ams. In pool however as long as you are willing to travel, you can enter into just about any professional event you want.

I wish I would have thought of this but I think it comes from Jim Rempe. This may not be exact but its close. He said its his 3 D's Dedication, discipline and desire. Thats what got him where he is.
