What is the sweetest feeling when you play Pool?

Best Feeling

I'm not very good at pool, but I gamble a lot at pool and golf. The best feeling is knowing that you are in a game that you are stealing at. You can pretty much play just as good as you need to if its a game that you can play over and over again, or step on the throttle if its a one time thing and make the other person look really stupid.

hmm

One of the best feelings I get playing pool, is drawing the cueball 2 or three feet to get straight in on the nine. It seems like when Im playing good my draw stroke is perfect, and the feeling of hitting a perfect shot just resonates good vibrations through my body.
Also when you need to really juice it up and draw a table in a half to get from the left to the right side of the table. The look your opponant gets when you hit it makes me want to start laughing.

One time I also had a feeling of complete control when I was just practicing by myself, I could see the curving path of the cueball while using extream english.
I looked at this shot:
OB was one diamond from the right pocket touching the end rail. The Cueball was on the other end of the table about a diamond and a half from the back right pocket squared. I looked at the ball on the rail, smiled, and cut it in to the left pocket.
This was just one of those shots you get a feeling about, and truely follow your feelings. I wasnt even suprised when I made it... partly because I was on drugs and partly because no one was watching. I had eaten an eighth of mushrooms; which is not good to play pool on due to feeling slightly sick, and not being able to get out of a game once youve started.
Ive heard several stories of people taking LSD and playing absolutely Godly, somthing I would like to see, because the shots that are made are usually out of this world.
I wish I could have seen Kieth back in his drug induced days; I heard a story once about Kieth playing someone for money, and Kieth was giggling and laughing the whole time while JUMPING each shot in. He was jumping the cue ball on every shot for no reason, just because he could and he knew it. Im not sure if this is true, maybe Kieth can clear this up a bit?

The sweetest I have had so far is when I'm in that zone, where it becomes difficult to miss. At times I will lign up for the shot, and my brain will just know the angle is right or it's not. It takes a half inch shuffle of my bridge hand for my brain to "twing" with "Yep, thats it! TAKE IT!" It's really a strange feeling. The other would be having a multi-ball runout on a game. Just the setups are perfect each time. Seeing the look on his face when you do a 5 or 6 ball runout is just... ahh, feels guuud.

My Sweet Feeling Comes From Counting The Ca$h After The Match.

Ty & Gl

Does this mean you cannot enjoy playing when there is no money on the game? You can only take pleasure in it when you are taking money from your opponent?

Personally I'm the opposite most of the time. I try to concentrate on playing well and if I happen to be playing for money, then the money won is just a natural end result of playing my game, not the objective. HOWEVER if I've spent a long time playing a money game, or in a tournament, and then get beat or quit I find I cannot switch mental modes and enjoy a few hours of just "play play". It usually takes me until the next day to be able to come back from that mental place and again enjoy the game for the game's sake.

I guess if I did nothing but play money games constantly I too could grow such callouses on my soul that the game itself would never give me the same pleasure again.

Running out my first rack of 9-ball on a 9 ft table was by far the sweetest moment I've had in pool. But, the moment was slightly melancholy as I was by myself in the basement when it happened. :(

I remember the first rack of 9 Ball I ever ran very well, because I scratched on the 9! Still, I did learn something from it so I guess it wasn't totally a waste.

8 and out!

Surely one of the sweetest moments for me is finishing an 8 and out run playing one pocket. It's all the sweeter when your opponent thinks he's got the best of the game. But I guess my sweetest moment ever, on a pool table, was making a two rail kick on my last ball in the finals of an eight-ball tournament. My opponent had hooked me pretty good, leaving no one-rail kicks at my last ball. The shot not only went in, but the cue ball rolled so straight in on the 8-ball that my opponent conceeded the match. And to top it off, the match was on a local cable TV channel so I was able to videotape it.

Okay ... okay ...

I tried to resist this, really hard, but I can't.
When pocketing the money or tournament match ball
to win the match, and some good looking single woman
that has been watching you play, looks at you, smiles,
then glances down at your crotch, and back up to your face, and winks ...

Yes, we can see how hard it is! :o

aargh scott u beat me. was gonna post same thing.

played my best pool ever last night. Even did a 14-1 rack runout, using 60% of combo's (2 even 3 ball combo's),20% of banking, and rest was normal playing on the last balls. I even surprised myself. :D just felt like i couldnt miss any ball. my trouble pots went in like if it was the easyest pot ever.

There where around 60 people (even amount of man and woman, some couples and some singles) and it was fun to see 80% of the woman stand round my table and watch me play instead of looking at there boyfriend/husbands playing pool.
(i didnt feel very confortable with my stands, as...well my "behind" was always in the straight line of sight of some woman/girls... but they seemed to enjoy it, i enjoyed it, and i did get 2 girls who asked me for a phone number, but i have my girl, so didnt went any further, but it felt DAMN nice :p

Ahhh...that feeling...

when Whitey is on the string and the OB's are on rails, and I'm not 'trying', it's just happening...when I'm 'crackin' and their rackin'...ok, I'll wake up now!...man this state doesnt' happen often enough, but when it does it's SWEET! :D

oh, and the sounds of a Pool Room, sans Music, Trivia, Kareoke etc...just that click, clack, spap, splunk...it's good!

jeysey, i must disagree... my poolhall is the "fameus" karaoke barr, and even if they didnt had karaoke last night, the sound of the music SO loud i could hardly understand myself, puting me in some kind of musical trance. hearing 10 songs in a row of your top50 songs ever, girls watching u... hard to beat it.

its true the sound of a perfect pot DOES sound apealing, but ive been a dj for some years, when i was a bit younger, and music is my drugs. it can put me wherever i want, and if its played WHEN im pool'ing, and if its played LOUD enough to take away any non-apealing noize (talking, etc), the music IS the thing that gets me in the zone and further... exactly what happened. but guess that all depends what music they are playing, and how sensible u are to music..

it even goes so far, that if a bad song is played, i know ill be missing many balls, and when i hear my fovorit song, i just stop the rack im playing, put on a new rack, and i start the new rack in my musical trance, wich makes me play like 50% better. i know its all just something mental, and if i can play 50% better just by hearing a song, i could probably play 50% if i concentrated more, but music is for me THE BEST THING EVER to get me into the magical zone.

:o enough rant. 5am, *puts away the beers and the vodka, jumps on his bysical (that right word), drives to his girl, and goes get a good.... "zone :D ". c ya all tomorow fellow freaks.

greats from the greath Belgium solly

sorry, was hungry and made myself a GIANT sandwich, so ive got 2more minuts to post crap no one reads or is interested in, but i am :p and thats what counts.

the music theory sounds pritty possible. When u hear a song u know, most do a association of the song with the last time they heared the song.
so.. if for example u and your girl/wife have a favorit love song, and u hear it, ull probably think of the day u fell in love or the day u met her. So u associate the song with positive things in your life.

Getting into the zone is ALL about positive atitude. being SURE every pot will go in, seeing paterns 10 times quicker and easyer, everything feeling like it just was ment to be. exactly the same + attitude when u hear that magical love song.

so it really isnt weird, that when i hear my favorit songs (doesnt have to be a love song, it can be a song i heared for the first time in a club when i was having a GREATH time dansing my **** off. ill associate the song with + things WHEN im playing, making me feel 100% more confident, more positive, more happy, move lovingfull, more any feelings that gives u from being in the zone.

im a .. C? player, i rarely run out a rack, but when i hear that magical song, i can say: if u put on a new rack, i can garanty i will run it out. and most of the time i DO.

conclusion: im weird, im european, but i DO love music and its my personal drill to get me into this UBER state of concentration , happyness, awareness of your joy of just being alive and living your life, that puts me into the ZONE giving me tha hapiest feeling ever.

ok thats it: finished my sandwich, ill leave u all alone now.

ps: still got a 6pack here, so if anyone feels to join, just pm me.

What moments have you had like that playing Pool? Please share so we can all enjoy them.

Not a specific moment, but sometimes when I am in stroke and like you say, nothing else matters but executing shots, after making the 9 ball (ofcourse while playing 9 ball), I look for the next ball to shoot... and then it dawns on me the game is over...

My sweet feeling is blistering some cocky kid on the table and watching them walk away dejected and broke....

This got me to thinking... I have had several moments that made me feel absolutely great. I remember my first time I ran over a hundred balls in straight pool. It was at Guy's and Doll's in Belleville, NJ. I was so happy, so proud, that I screamed and jumped for joy. There was aguy named Wayne that was not excited about my excitement. When I shouted for joy he was bent over the table and shooting. He came over and asked what I was so excited about. I told him, "I just ran 105 balls!!!"

He shook his head in disgust and said, "So what? I'd be more impressed if you'd shut the F up." Ha Ha. I miss that pool hall. My jubilation lasted about 20 seconds before I was immediately put in my place. It was hard to have an ego in that environment. I miss those days.

If I were to narrow down the sweetest feeling I had while playing pool, it would be the rush I got when I was in the middle of a run. I was lightning fast and would go at the balls at a million miles an hour. I would hear the balls rolling in the ball return and it would just make my blood pump even faster. I can remember that nothing else existed, just me, the balls, my cue, the stroke, and that beautiful sound of the balls rolling in the subway. Nothing comes close to that. None of the money I won (or lost) over the years could have ever bought that feeling. I'd do it all over again free of charge.

That sweet feeling: Bring on the Spectators!

Sometimes, when I'm shooting pool,
it's like I'm in another universe,
the cue dances in my hands,
my eyes can see every angle,
and I'm having so much fun.

All the hits are clean.
Click. Plop.

I'm alone, usually,
but sometimes shooting with another player.
Quiet, except for the sounds of the surf in the distance.
And the Click, Plop.

Ah, the sweet serenity of solitude.
To be alone with the most important thoughts in the world.
Mine.
And then, almost without notice,
to have no thoughts at all.

That's where pool comes in.
It's a meditation.
This is where I find peace.
Playing with the Laws of the Universe (physics)
on a table green with cloth,
and filled with celestial spheres,
and me, the Grand Mover, poking his toys with a stick.

What mankind-benefitting thought could you have
while fritter'n your time away with such trivia as pool?

And that's just the point: to think no thought at all.
To be of no conscious mind.
To let pool be played,
and let me be the player.

This is the meditation.
The person who gets to this place is Fast Mikie.

It is not a competition.
It is an exhibition of an altered state of cosciousness,
during which a beautiful performance occurs,
moments of improptu virtuoso,
a magic wand is waved and objects disappear,
while other objects spin wondrously 'round the table,
as if by some impossible, invisible force.

There is no competitor when I am like this.
He becomes a spectator.

Bring on the spectators!
