what is wrong with chalking right handed?

Well, I chalk right handed...but I sure don't play like Dechaine. :sorry:

People that are naturally ambidextrous are rare, with only one out of one hundred people being naturally ambidextrous.

Who gives a sheet how I chalk my cue as long as I place it right side up on the table.

They way I chalked the way I do is very simple. When you chalk "normal" I guess, I dark ring of chalk ends up forming right below the ferrule. In time, that ring starts to take away some of the wood. I can't play if the shaft ends up like that. Also, I miscue sometimes. I like to make sure my tip is fully chalked on all areas of it. It may good stupid, but it works.

Lol

"A bear and a rabbit happen to find themselves next to each other, relieving themselves in the woods. The bear asks the rabbit, 'do you have a problem with, you know, it sticking to your fur?' The rabbit answers, 'no.' So the bear wipes himself with the rabbit."

-Sean <-- not sure if the bear wiped with his left or right paw

LOL  LOL :-)

So there we have it, an explanation from the man himself.

Thanks for weighing in, Mike. :)

I chalk with either hand. I try to chalk right handed to keep the chalk off my bridge hand, but sometimies I am so focused that I just pick the chalk up with the left hand and chalk. No rhyme or reason.

I didn't want to derail the shame/mike thread (not that doing so would be a terrible shame) but the fact that mike chalked with his right hand keeps getting brought up, as though its a bad thing.

I think it's the WAY he chalks that they were commenting on.

But, if I even bother chalking (hey, I spent 5 times as much on my chalk than a normal cube, so I should chalk up 1/5th the time), I don't care anymore how I chalk. Honestly. It used to be a big thing for me, but it isn't anymore. I'll use my left hand, my right hand.

I used to chalk with my left hand, put the chalk down and wipe the shaft first with my right hand then my left hand, from low to high. It's a nice elegant looking chalk dance. This is the Rempe Method.

Sometimes I do the chalk in left hand brushing while slowly rotating the cue with my right thumb as described earlier. I call this the Mataya Method.

Occassionally, while I'm down on the shot, I realize I have to chalk but I don't want to lose my line. I grab the chalk with my left hand, chalk and put it down without over looking away from the object ball. I call this the Sigel Method.

Sometimes I attack with the bumper firmly planted on the floor, gripping the shaft firmly and repeatedly BLAST the chalk on the tip making loud pinging sounds at every thwack than anyone within the zip code can hear. I call this the Angry Method.

Sometimes I jam the butt against my right foot, grab the shaft high with my right hand (pinky, ring and middle finger) and chalk with my same right hand (thumb and forefinger) while firmly planting my left hand on my left hip pretending to think about the shot. I'm normally wondering what the hell I'm doing on a pool table again. I call this the Wanderone Method. This by far is my preferred method, especially as I get older.

Now... what cue hits the best?

I always chalk with my right hand. I like to brush the chalk on the tip so it goes evenly on the tip and doesn't get all over my hands/shaft/ferrule etc. My chalk has a flat surface and lasts freaking forever. I don't like drilling, it's too messy.

Great I shoot right and chalk with my right hand. Now I have a new thought and worry, switching to my left hand.

Mike, I like the way you play.
But your chalking technique is horrible.
I think you and Ace911 should play in the APA for one session....
..and learn how to chalk from this man.

...then you would be one of those players I could actually lend a cue to.
