I searched to see if this topic has come up but shockingly it either hasn't or it's been too long ago.

Even if it has, it's a fun thing to discuss.

Off the top of my head, (keep in mind I haven't been around the game as long as some)

14.1 - lots of good ones but the match I keep playing again and again is Engert vs. Hohmann 2006 World Championship finals. 200 points in three innings.

10 ball - Van Boening vs. Deuel race to 100 (Thanks TAR). Shane's match with Alex was great too, better in a lot of ways. But from a historic point of view, Shane's annilation of another top player really cemented him as one of the best players in the world and it made him a ton of new fans. On DVD 4, Shane goes on a 14 or 17 game stretch where he plays perfect pool.

9 ball - Pagualyan vs Pei Wei Chang, 2004 World 9 ball Championships - Alex was down 11-4 at one point, came back and won 17-13. I think he ran out the match from 13-13.

One Pocket - Jersey Red vs. Bob Osborne. No reason, I just like Red.

Snooker - tough one to choose but...Ronnie O'Sullivan vs. Stephen Hendry 2007 Semi Finals World Championships. Ronnie shuts Stephen down beating him 17 - 6. Runner up would be the Hendry - White in 1992.

All in all I'd say Hohmann and Engert beat out the rest.

A couple of the best matches I've seen in recent years was Darren Appleton's courageous win over Wu in the finals of the 2008 World Ten Ball, and Shane's amazing match against Ronnie A. for the hot seat at the U.S. Open three years ago. The good thing is they were both preserved on video.

I think Wu Vs. Kuo in the finals of the 05 world championships was a great match. Kept you on the edge of the seat pretty much the entire time. Also when Ellerman double dipped Parica in the finals of the USBTC( 8 ball division) both sets went hill-hill.

mike seigel vs mike zugland. seigel ran 150 and out..... mike z broke lft a tough tough shot. seigel knocked it down and literally got out of like 1 time the entire match. if you even call that out of line

If it weren't for TAR, I would have never got to see my favorite all time match, Action Challenge 3, SVB vs. Alex Pagulayan Race to 100. Great play on both sides, good commentary & one hell of a comeback. Thanks TAR for what you guys do. That was one exciting match!

My all time favorite is still Earl and Efren in The Color of Money match

Earl Strickland and Johnny Archer in the 91 or 92 LA Open...... and or Earl Strickland vs Nick Varner in the World Championships around the same time. good stuff..... That Filipino Match vs. Team USA wasn't bad either.

us open

Mike Sigel vs Nick Varner in the late 80's or early 90's semi final us open 9-ball is my all time fav. with all the drama in has at the end.. wish i still had the vhs from accu-stats.

Mine would have to be an 11-10 match between Corey and Efren in the 2004 (i think) US Open. Some amazing safety play and safety escapes, and the final game featured about a 15 foot, 3 rail draw shot by Corey that still makes me shake my head every time I see it.

Another one of my favs is the 1999 US open final Archer vs Jones. Great commentary by Grady and Varner, some of the best that I have heard. I think both players string 5 racks together each at some point in the match. Archer jumps out to a big lead but Jones shows alot of heart and fights his way back. Great match.

Two matches come to mind from some players most you have never heard of.

Early 90's, the old McDermott 9 Ball Tour, Galaxy Billiards, San Antonio. Format was race to 9, winner break.

A local older gentleman, Don Smith, whose main game was one pocket was matched up in the early rounds in the tourney with David Henson from Austin. The line was 9-2 or 9-3 in David's favor to win the match.

Ol' Don came alive and had David down 8-0!! David came back and tied it up at 8-8, only to rattle an easy 9 ball for Don to take the match.

Another match at the same tourney pitted Barry Strickland from Houston against David Matlock. Barry broke and proceeded to put a 6 pack on David. In the 7th rack, Barry broke dry and that was it. Barry got to the table only 3 more times in the match only to be kicking at balls. David M. won 9-6!

One entire tourney I will never forget was the Red's tourney in Houston in the early 80's when Efren came to the USA for the first time and competed under the name of Cesar Morales. My jaw hung open for 4 days as Efren went through the entire field like a chain saw through butter!

Good memories!

1992 US OPEN 14.1 Championships. . . Mike Sigel vs Mike Zuglan Sigel runs 150 & out. As perfect an out as I have ever scene.

Sigel over Zuglan is my favorite, but the SVB/Pagulyan match is right up there.

I also like the Sigel/Rempe match from '89 where Sigel runs 150 and out with no commentary. That would be a great match for Pat to put a DVD and have Sigel do a player review. Someone should suggest it to him. I am sure Sigel would love to talk about that run.

Finals of 1 pocket in Galveston this year. Efren vs Shannon. Some amazing 1 pocket play as Efren had to double dip Shannon to get the victory.
