What is your goal in pool?

I just want to play tomorrow....
When I walk in I want them to say "Who is that old man?"
When I leave I want them to say "Who was that old man!"

River, I'm 63 years old and last year I bought myself a big red Vespa scooter and rode it all summer. I felt just like a dog in a car with his head out the window going down a highway. The moral of this story, if there is one, could be: You may not be able to look very cool if you're old, but you can still look cute.
And what's this got to do with pool? I ride the scooter to the pool hall.

A California style pool goal

Twice in my life I have reached "The Zone." I mean, The Zone akin to freaking Nirvana, where all reality, outside sources, etc. are either suspended or peripheral, and your entire concentration is focused on what you are doing at the moment. Quiet, blissful, brain hum- and when the activity stops, you feel like you woke up from a dream and can not remember any of the details, just the sensation of Purpose. And I'm not talking about anything drug related, seriously.

Once was during a college math test. I got every question and the bonus questions perfectly. Felt well- rested when the test was over, like I just woke up, and couldn't remember any of the questions. I felt peaceful and was not worried over my test score. Now I sort of feel like it was a slight waste of The Zone, esp since I hate math and worked very hard to already have an A anyway, but I am still grateful for the experience.

The other time was during pool practice with my old teacher. I ran out from somewhere in the middle of a rack, broke and made a ball, and proceeded to run, break and run, for four full racks before breaking dry. Afterwards I was told what I had done, and I didn't really remember any of the shots, had never experienced anything like stress or self- conciousness during the runs, only Purpose. Again, I felt quiet, restful, and dream like.

So my immediate goal is to find that Zone again. My long term goal is to be able to find it more regularly. What I notice about both experiences now is that they each came after a great deal of constant, arduous work and practice...

I think that´s a typical european goal, i think.
And i completely understand that - i had the same goals some years ago. :grin-square:
For sure in another country, but i wish you all the best to reach it
Erich

You bet its typical euro goal! :grin-square: As I am already national champ and I am going to represent my country 5 years running my goal is "little" higher than Roys this year: get into the last 32 in any discipline at european championships. From there on anything is possible! My secondary goals are: to run century in snooker; to run centuries in 14-1 on regular basis.

Right now I cannot play pool that much as I have other things going on. So I decided to join APA league and club baby seals for a while and get my 20 matches in so I can qualify for the national singles events where the competition is alot more stiff.

Play for the USA in the Mosconi cup or/and win the U.S. open. LOL I have a long way to go.........

Just turned 50 and picked up the game of pool at the same time. I've been playing now for 3 weeks and I love it. Kick myself in the butt each time I play for not learning this great game before. My very modest goal is to start sinking more balls than I miss...then to start moving the cue ball around a little and maybe join an 8-ball league.
