What Is Your Specialty Shot?

Mine is probably the super thin cut 1/2 inch off the rail all the way down past the side pockets... I probably make 70-80 percent of these from either side.

I had a pool-shootin' buddy of mine once tell me that I shoot frozen balls up the rail as good as anybody he's ever seen (but I don't know how many he ever saw :D).

Also...OB between side and corner pocket but closer to the diamond near the side, on or very close to the rail...CB on same end of table but between spot and middle diamond of short rail...cross side pocket blocked. I have an uncanny knack of being able to bank this shot to the cross side corner pocket on the far end of the table often enough that it even amazes me. Weird thing is...I just "see" the shot and don't have to spend much time sizing it up. I will say this...I'd hate to have to shoot that shot with all the cheese on the line!!!

3 inches from the pocket... cue ball three inches from the OB.... straight in... I'm dead to nuts on this one.

I've f*cked this shot up more times than I'd like to admit :o!!!

And to RandyG...I've even missed a "hanger" before...and I mean missed it completely!!! :sorry:

Maniac (there are NO easy shots, right???)

Always a fun shot! I like this same shot, but when it comes up as a cross bank into the side and the CB swings 3 rails (That would be my specialty shot).

Yes. That is the swing shot. I over run position a lot of time and have to use this shot more frequently than I'd like to. It looks good, but you REALLY have to "juice" the cue ball to ensure you don't come up short.

Even though it looks pretty difficult, it ISN'T. You just have to be able to power stroke the ball.

Aloha.

That's easy. I call it the Self-Safety Shot. I bank the OB and lock the CB up tight to another ball making it nearly impossible to hit the OB. But I usually don't pay any attention to where the OB is going...and then find that I've banked it into a pocket.

I know everyone has a shot that they can probably make 9/10 times and would consider it their favorite, so what's yours? For me it's a reverse cut shot, I feel like I hardly miss these and my friend is always saying how I consistently make them without even thinking about it, but put any other harder shot in front of me and I'll probably dog it.

To me, having a specialty shot is important because when I'm playing my friend in 9 ball and have no clue what to do after the break, sometimes I push out to a reverse cut, hoping he would pass it back, it's stupid I know but it comes in handy sometimes. So what's your favorite/specialty shot?

Pretty sure my specialty shot is the stretched out draw shot with a miscue to pop the cueball to the next table.

Freddie <~~~ good for one a session

Hey Freddie, how about the shot where you miscue and jump the CB over the OB and it goes dead straight into the pocket....swish!!!!

Maniac (but, I've never done that......)

My top shot is the "rattle". I can "almost" make just about any shot, just not quite.

Sometimes I wish I played worse so I don't leave balls hanging in pockets for my opponent when I almost make the shot.

I had to second this without further delay. Being a medium skill player is often worse than being terrible when it comes to the shot that's left when I walk away from the table.

Any shot into the side pocket that would seem difficult or to some un-makeable. I've practiced any and every side pocket shot you can think of, and 80% of the time I can make them. Its good for opponents thinking I'm left with a bank or safe. Then BAM, cut her right in :D

Also any kind of jump, I've been very consistent with jumps and jump banks lately.

Someone go find it on Youtube!!!

3 & 4 rail kicks.....grew up playing a lot of 3 cushion billiards from my teenage years to my late 20's in NYC....moved to the west coast and hardly have played since. I got hooked on 3 cushion in 1963 after watching the movie, "The Hustler".

It's impossible to even find a billiards table in a pool hall nowadays. Haven't played 3 cushion in the past 20 years and miss the game so much.......it's so much more complicated and challenging..........it's as satisfying as sinking a 60' putt....you get to watch the shot it seems like forever.......hit the opponents or red ball and then root for the final hit after watching your cue ball travel around a 10' table hitting 3 cushions in its journey.....and the near misses that torture you to death.....the game is exquisite agony and ever so satisfying at the same time.........Willie Hoppe....you were a pool God.

I like to jump object balls...its not consistent (more so that I'm not consistent) but I have got myself out of a couple jams when my object ball wont pass by another ball into a pocket...

Had one the other night at league...I dogged shape on the 8 ball so I lagged the 8 towards a corner pocket and left my opponent as tough as I could...He played a smart shot and blocked the pocket that the 8 would go in (He left his ball about 6" in front of the 8)...I looked at it and thought man thats a tough bank, there was no way to go rail first with the 8 and carom off of his ball. I stared at it for a few more seconds and realized he only had me blocked with half a ball, I called the corner that he blocked, jacked up and jumped the cue ball into the 8 and made it nothing but net...The cue ball took a bad hop and I thought it was going to come off the table but it settled down and stayed up for me....

I need to unlearn this shot... :(
