What kind and color of chalk do you use and why?

I use the Blue master just cause it was always around. I did try some Green and it seemed a little softer.:)

I gave you Rep points, cause I think the Brunette in your Avatar is very Pretty.:D
Thank you - that is my wife. She plays pool as well. That is actually how we met.

I often wonder why the don't make a dark green myself. Seems like a natural to me.
The silver cup green chalk is dark green. I have tried that as well. I am not sure what the difference between the silver cup and master chalk is but the silver cup seems to be a lot softer.

I used tan/camel Masters until Jude R BROWBEAT me into switching to blue Masters when this topic came up about 2 years ago. He's really mean, you know . . . . :p

Master Blue - Simply because it is default, and easy to get. I have tried Silver Cup, but for some reason I feel that Master stays on the best. If memory serves me correct, aren't Master and Silver Cup somewhat the same company?

I'd prefer to use Purple (which for me, for some odd reason or another, keeps it clean as well), but it hard to come by locally, and also I don't think they have it available from Master.
Silver cup makes purple chalk and is available online for 3.60 a box. If you check insidepool.com they might have it and they ship free to the lower 48.

I've used blue Master chalk for the last twenty years with no complaints. I've found that the green Master, for whatever reason, seems to be softer and doesn't hold as well.

I haven't had any problems with the green master chalk - what kind of tip do you use. I use a soft moori and I haven't had any problems with it holding at all.

Blue Master chalk, because it is what I started with and I still prefer it....and I prefer green cloth on the table, also.

ditto ... Never found a better chalk than DARK Blue Masters Chalk.

I use blue masters chalk now. I was using silver masters chalk, which I actually prefer just to keep things cleaner, but in the end, it was to much of a pain to keep my silver seperate from others while playing/practicing/league, etc.

Obviously I don't use a chalk holder, otherwise it probably wouldn't be an issue.

I always use my own chalk. I actually can't remember the last time I used the "house" chalk. I have a cool little box that I got from master that holds 2 pieces of chalk in it so I always have that in my case and I have the habit of picking my chalk up off the table after every shot - make or miss. Occasionally I will lose a piece of chalk but not too many people use that same chalk as I do (green master) so I don't lose them too often.

I don't use house chalk either, I always bring my own personal selection, which pretty much everyone does around my area. Only problem was, I was the only one using silver chalk and I have a bad habit of leaving my chalk on the table while I'm playing.

Nothing more mentally frustrating then shooting your opponent in a match, chalking up for the next shot, only to realize you've picked up his blue chalk and mixed it with your silver lol.

Only happened a couple times, but enough for me to "give into the dark side" and go with blue masters.

Of course after a pitcher or two and a shot of tequilla, does it really matter what color the chalk is? lol

Blue Masters... Mainly from convenience, but also from experience. The Blue Masters is most commonly found and used. In my experience, the Green and other colors Masters, along with Silver Cup chalk don't hold quite as well. The others leave more bare spots on the tip. Whereas the Blue Masters is more effective at covering the tip.

As long as you use the same chalk consistently, then it makes little difference. If you use a better chalk normally, and wind up using a lesser chalk, then you will notice the increase in miscues, and may recognize that you have to reduce the amount of spin on the ball.

If I was going to switch, I'd use Blue Triangle. Tried it out in Vegas and was quite impressed with it. It covered the tip well, held better, and was definitely less messy than the others.

Currently, I don't need chalk that holds longer than Masters Blue, because part of my pre-shot routine is to lightly chalk up the cue, while viewing my next shot. Using the Triangle with my pre-shot routine, I'd probably chalk up 10 times more than I need to, or else would have to mentally think about when I should chalk, which would be distracting.

P.S. Welcome to the Board.

Blue Masters on playing cues, or cues with blueing shafts, because Masters is best, and blue is what most people use.

Tan Masters on nice cues that I think I might re-sell, because it doesn't show up as much on the shaft.
