What shaft would you recommend?

I prefer to shoot soft on most shots and lots of spin with little effort. Would I need a whippy shaft? stiff? somewhere inbetween?

The only specs I have decided on is 11.5- 12mm tip, pro taper.

The OB Pro has a European Conical Taper.

I like it though & I have two (1 w/ soft tip & 1 w/Med. tip) & they are what I'm playing, but I grew up with the conical taper.

Best Wishes 2 All.

That's right I forgot about that taper. The taper I barely notice, but I can't play with anything greater than that diameter (11.75mm).

I actually like the taper as it tightens in a closed bridge which is what I use for any power shots.

I'd like to have a rather stiff shaft (to get immediate feedback and force transfer) and then balance with a medium tip.
I also like to play with an extremely loose grip, too, so that's definately my combo and might be a good fit for you, too.

Try a Tiger LD shaft (12,75mm) with Sniper tip for the feel. Onyx is also very nice but pricey. Do not go for the Everest - it's nice at first, but gets far too hard over time.
The Tiger Pro X has canonical taper also, so that's a no for you.

As for <12mm shafts they rarely come in pro taper due to durability issues.
OB might be another option to try.

Cheers and good luck!

If you want a pro tapered 11,75-12mm shaft, S tuned Z2 or a HXT skinny shaft are your only choices that im aware of.
Add to that a soft or a medium tip and you should have about what you are looking for.

You are probably gonna get 15 hundred different shafts recommendation.
I suggest you narrow your question into 2 different categories,
1) Production company shaft
2) Custom cuemakers-made shaft

For production shaft, walk into any pool hall and most popularchoices will be mezz, predator , ob and tiger which is mostly endorsed by professionals and definitely for a reason ot visit a pool equipment shop and most shops carry these brands.
These are bigger companies , so they spent more momey on R&D so they develope better n more consistent products. (Definitely not knocking smaller companies.
Each compamy have a range of shaft to fit different needs, try all and pick one u like.

My choice is Mezz, solid and unlamimated shaft for low deflection or they have conventional maple shaft, all depends on you.

Next , if you decide to go for custom , you might as well get an entire cue custom made, popular choices for cuemakers that accomodate shaft request are Keith Josey or Andy gilbert that i know off.

You are going to need to try many different custom shaft to find what what u like and trying out custom cues made be subjected to friends that u know, its gonna be wierd to go up to a complete stranger using a southwest and expect that they will allow you to test hit their prized horse.

Hope this paints you a clearer picture.
My advice is to go production if u want a shaft and custom to get a entire cue done to ur preference and you can even fit a production shaft if u like.
Good luck :)

Great advice from Mr morales.

My advice is to try a few out and see what you like. If this is not an option, look at used cues/shafts. If you buy used you can likely sell it for close to what you paid if you end up not liking what you buy.

At the end of the day, nobody here can tell you what you will like.

Yep. OB 2 is right in your wheelhouse, soft hit, and 11.75 MM with LD qualities as well, can't go wrong with that shaft

Shafts

I can make you a custom solid maple shaft depending on the joint.
I can also make you a custom non laminated LD shaft depending on the joint

Almost any serous cue repairman can make you a shaft, depending on the joint.

If you lived close to me I would let you try out some of the shafts I have with different tapers and diameters and tips and ferules and that way your chances of getting stuck with a shaft you don't like would be minimal.....................

You might want to post this in the cue maker section and see if you have one close to you .
