What should I expect to pay for a good Gold Crown

Starting to look in ernest...prices and condition are all over the place - as expected. Can any one give me an idea of the range I should be paying for a used Gold Crown? I am currently looking at a GC 1, and a GC 4. One is sold by a local dealer and priced with new cloth and warranty, the other is local sale. Both in pretty good condition, I would have to arrange move for GC 1. Just trying to get an idea of what I should be paying. Thanks.

You should be able to do table installed for 2500$, realistically.

Be patient. It is a purchase that you will have for a long time.

I think it is a good idea to reach out to reputable mechanics in your area. They often have access to stored tables or knowledge about where they can be found. Added benefit is they pick up/ move/ deliver/setup, so you just need to pay and play.

Thanks. How much more would a GC 4 be, and what should I expect to pay to have it delivered and setup form dealer..used in good condition.

I bought my GC4 in 2012 for 3000 or 3500 (I forgot which) installed. This included local delivery, installation, new 860, a home model brunswick light, aramith balls, wall rack, etc.. The table was never in a pool room, I was the third private owner. I bought it from a player in a private sale, who was switching to a Diamond. My price was probably at the higher end for a used GC, but it was a private table, so didn't have the wear of a commercial table. The few hundred to a 1000 was definitely worth the higher price, IMO.

FYI in case you were not aware, All GC1, all GC2, and early GC3 tables, all of those if they need new rubber for any reason, do not accept the superspeed rubber you can buy today from Brunswick. The shape of the rubber was different then. If you put the new rubber on these tables, the balls will bounce off the rails incorrectly. The only fix, is to change the angle of the wood on the rails so it works with the new rubber available today. There are a few mechanics across the country that do this, and the cost is roughly 1000 or so for cutting the wood and putting the new rubber on.

If you get a later GC3, or any GC4, any GC5, any GC6, and the rubber needs replacement, you can use the superspeed sold today as a direct replacement. The table will play perfectly.

Keep this in mind. And if the mechanic says he will put new rubber on without changing the wood angles on the older GC's, he doesn't know what he's talking about, and the table will play wrong.

The other thing, is if you do find a GC1 or a GC2, and it has the original rubber, which was called monarch superspeed, as long as the glue has not failed, that rubber may last another 50 years. But the later rubbers do not last as long. They were made by other companies.

The green one (GCIII) was $500 out of a bar plus $500 new cloth & set-up, so $1000 all in. Blue (GC1 or II, forget?) was about $3500 all in, shipped from 5 states away, new cloth but set up by me.

No offense totable dealers, but that's a sure way to overpay.
You can find great tables for $1000 or less. 2 guys can tear one down and move it. Not rocket science plus you will learn about your table by doing it. Find the very best mechanic in your area, just ask the better players or room owners. Don't use the pool and patio guy because they will inevitably screw it up.

I have a fleet of freshly restored and remodeled GC 1s, I'd sell them for $2200 each. 860HR, castings are mirror polished, paint is pristine, all rails and slates from home tables, perfect playability with 4.5" pockets.

Paying more than that seems crazy
Sure wish I had room for a GC. Even with the new rails and 860HR on my 8’ in the garage it’s just not as fun. Maybe when a few more kids move out I will be able to throw a few bikes away and make room.

I don’t know which one is blue or green but that bottom one looks really cool. Ten years again we put an addition on the house and I still didn’t get a poolroom. Wish I had a basement but I don’t think it’s worth living up north to get one.

I totally agree on the spa and hot tub guys but people sometimes are happy to pay for convenience. The convenience of more easily finding a "fair" priced nice table and paying resources (mechanics) to do the heavy lifting and dirty work (i.e. smart stuff). You cannot expect a casual player to become evenly faintly familiar on assembly and disassembly of a likely one time event. Much less all the nuances of proper tear down, transport and set-up along with table condition and quality.

A lot of guys puff out their chests on how "cheap" they can buy the same table you're looking at that's more $$. It's meaningless for the most part.

I'd give ideaologist a look on his GC 1's and if you don't like the painted tables, possible determine a price to recondition to natural finish. Not everyone likes the retro look and would prefer the wood finish.

People get hosed trying to go cheap that have no clue what they're doing. Totally agree on finding a great mechanic first in your area for lots of reasons.

GC 1 1250..plus move and refelt
GC 4 4000 installed with warranty on everything. 4 is in better condition, but more!

both are 9ft model
Have you seen either or have pics? So say GC1 = 2k and GC4 = 4K.

I paid $1000 for a Gold Crown 1, was a home table in great shape. Install with new Simonis 860HR was $700, plus $80 for new drop pockets.

Plenty of good deals out there, take your time, do your homework and hire a good mechanic, as others have said.

You did get a great deal. :-) Would also say someone else paid for the recondition BEFORE you got it. That saved you a bit and they must have really needed to move it out. Happens all the time...people start higher and don't get bites so the price drop is usually pretty heavy.

Agreed. The people I bought from got the table with the house they purchased in 2018. So likely the previous owner either did the reconditioning, or had it done. They advertised @ $1500, negotiated down to $1000. Still, I see quite a few out there for sale under $2k. I’d say it’s tough for a non-dealer to get there money back on their investment.

Gold Crown 4 was $2200, plus 3 hrs away to transport. All in $4500 +/- some with setup without new ball sets, racks, etc.

$2100 for a GCIII plus $400 for a mechanic to look it over,
disassemble, transport (125 miles) , and set it up.
It was a serious players table so it was spot on.
Changed nothing but putting drop pockets in.
