What the hell......

Does have an AA feel to it... "Hi, my name's Louie, and I'm a pool-a-holic."

I'm not a septuagenarian yet, but back when I first started with computers there were really lousy message boards and Usenet groups, way before these forums existed. I'm also not too big a fan of the current social media, though I do understand that's the way things are going today. Now they want to control what news is "real" and "fake". I actually liked Myspace better than FaceBook. Oh well....

But you got to love it - one person complaining that new posters go out the gate joining in on conversations without a formal introduction, and another complaining that new posters make compliments on another person's cues to boost their post count? So, new members should act like zombies till their post count reaches 3000? Wha? This whole thread all the sudden doesn't make sense. Call them out right then and there! Why make a separate thread about it? Confrontation by non-confrontation? Great way to grow the sport; no wonder it's dying a slow death.

I just realized that after 5721 posts I have never introduced my self.
Let me fix that.
I'm 70 years old.
Playing pool for 57 years.
I still work full time in the flooring business.
I live in the enlightened state of Colorado.Concealed carry,Casinos, legal pot, state lottery.
And I'm a proud deplorable.
Any questions ?

Yes I have one....what are you doing about 10:00am tomorrow?

I'm a lifetime Poolaholic that was away from the game for about 15 years before starting again a few years ago.

Not a big fan of Social media or small talk in real life either. Actions talk louder and with time you usually learn who you really want to get acquainted with. ...both in real life and on the internet.

Some people might think I'm a bit grumpy.

Has anyone noticed how new members just all of a sudden show up without any introduction what-so-ever?
There's a thread currently going around about how an 'old school' style cue should look, and there are lot's of good replies coming in. Clean out of nowhere comes an opinion from a guy, and it's post count 1 from him. No howdy-doo-how-are-you, or no "I'm new here", or "Long time lurker, first time poster", and certainly no "I sure hope to learn something by being here". No nothing.
Back in the day a new member properly introduced themselves, and would sometimes ask for permission to join in. They usually told us where they were they're from, and which game of pool they preferred. Stuff like that.
Not now, it seems.

All I can say is I feel your pain. See my Signature.

As for me, I did an intro back in 2012 as well as filled in my profile. I just returned after a few year lay off due to health and stuff.

Yeah, it's gotten too much like facebook here, But still some good guys with good advice. I figure I'll hang out for a while, so much to learn and I'm 67 lol . I'll have to keep old guy crankiness in check or try lol

This is how I have become lol

I have been a member for awhile now. Don't think I ever introduced myself.

I'm Chris and it's a pleasure to meet all you fine people. :)

??? Are you serious? You think that just because somebody has been hanging around the forum for years that they know more about pool? What if Efren reyes joined tomorrow...he should be asking if he can join in a discussion? lol ok.
btw this is my 3rd post...I wish I saw this earlier so I could have made it my 1st post....howdy-doo-how-are-you now?

Yes I'm serious, and I can tell right off that you're one of those very people we've been talking about.
You've obviously been brought up without manners, and if the truth be known your parents probably sued the condom company right after you were born.
Enjoy your stay here,

Grumpy is fine with me....as long as you're a pool player.

So far , none of these guys could solve a problem for me....maybe you can....
...How do you use outside english.....when you're playing indoors?

You expect people to ask you for permission before joining in a discussion? It's an open forum...that's how they work. If you want your own private forum where you and others like you can circle jerk each other in private...then ask for a PRIVATE forum...or start a group where you can invite people. Vbulletin has these features...talk to the admin.

Nowhere in this thread is any mention of a new member asking my permission to join, and you know it. This thread centers around those people, like yourself, who come in here with both guns blazing without introducing yourself to the membership. If you look at the very first sticky on the first page of this forum you'll see that an introduction is asked for. It doesn't say you have to. It just asks you to. A sign of respect from a new member to those who have been here.
Those you have read introducing themselves to me are old friends, and we're just having fun with it.
Maybe you should think about going back to Spacebook, or Instascam, or wherever it was you came from. :p

Tramp, don't know if I ever introduced myself.

Hi....I'm pt109....and I guard ships.....like tramp steamers...
...just in case war breaks out again.

Got four torpedos.....and I ain't afraid to use 'em

Proud to know ya, pt. Come up to the Ward room sometime for a cup of joe.
We'll take about the old days when we was young and good looking.
When men were men. and women knew better.

As for the amount of posts I don't use that as a judge for anything. On many forums including this one many will run up their posts counts with useless posts.

I find this to be true as well. It seems like every forum has their share of yakers.

You are insinuating that you expect they should. Why you think anybody should ask permission to join in a discussion in an open forum is beyond me. We would have 100 posts of people asking if they can join in a discussion before they even join the discussion...clutter. Besides, as I mentioned, Vbulletin has groups and private forum features...talk to the admin if you want them available.

You sound like a college boy...first day on the job....telling the oldtimers what's what.

Try reading a little bit of AZ....then you'll understand Tramp's sense of humor.

As Hidy Ho says....there's a bunch of yakkers on here....
...why would anybody join a forum if they ain't yakkers.

pt....motor mouths r us

Hi, I lurked for a long time, and just recently started posting. Been a long time member of other forums, and shit is generally the same in most of them. Is it OK if I join in your reindeer games every now and then? :D

...why would anybody join a forum if they ain't yakkers.

I truly believe many yakers/yakkers believe this ... and get their sense of validation/importance by posting everywhere and on every topics (like somehow the forum wouldn't be as substantive without their input).

Look at me .. here I am .. yaking away :)
