What THREE things would you like to see your Pool Room Owner/Management Change.

We have a very nice Room where I live with 29 Gold Crowns, 25 are 4.5' x 9.0', and the other 4 are a 3 Cushion, and 3 Snooker Tables all 5' x 10'

1. I would love to see the Manager get more maintenance staff budgeted to Clean the Tables & Balls Daily.

2. I would love to see all 25 Set of Pool Balls replaced with Aramith Balls, as we have a mix of Aramith's that are getting old, cracked, chipped, and a Dozen Set of Chinese Knock off that are the worst!

3. I would love to see management do a better job of enforcing the ROOM Rules, as we have some crazy thing happen once in a while.

This is obviously a personal preference but I would love to see more halls that are smoke free...I don't smoke...but I do play pool...I wish I could do more of one without the other.

Also I soooo agree that pretty much every place in the world needs to update their balls or at least clean them occasionally....it seems like the billiards balls are the most neglected items in a lot of pool halls!

Smoke Free

1. Smoke Free
2. Smoke Free
3. Smoke Free

Smoke has choked out most rooms and the customers that would come to a room.

Or at the very least, designate a smoke free area or as I saw the Smoking Cue in Charlotte do, a smoke free night.

I also think all bathrooms should always be smoke free. This is a confined space, if you have the whole pool hall to smoke in, do you really need to bring it into the bathroom too? I see it at Mr. Cues in Atlanta and it is usually the employees doing this and they also smoke behind the bar, with an ashtray right under where the food is set out. I think this has to be some kind of health code violation?

I'd also like to see a junior program implemented in rooms, to encourage young players to play.

And healthier choices on the menu would be nice. Along with maybe things like power bars and other tournament fuel that can be gotten fast, would be a good idea imo.

If I could make such requests, i would have just one,
though it's a different kind, i guess.

In one of the pool halls I play at, I would very much love
to have them hire back one of their spotters, Tatay Romy,
who had been with them for almost three decades.

Because of amendments in the labor laws,
he decided (after a couple of months thinking about it)
to quit his job to get his separation pay and use it
for his family, with emphasis on the kids.

The soft-spoken Tatay Romy is one of the kindest
chaps I know. He was always there for me when i was
just starting out in pool - always encouraging me and
giving me a tip or two every time i play.

I could say that he was one of the reasons why I kept
coming back to the pool hall when I was just starting out,
knowing nobody, knowing nothing. The friendship he
showered me with, and continue to do so, is filled
with warmth, sincerity, and respect.

And i could feel that his job was more than that for him.
It is a passion, not the spotting thing, but the sport as
a whole.

Truth be told, we still exchange text messages.
And always, he would ask how everybody is doing;
how the pool hall is; and more! And I kid you not!

If such a request could be granted, I'm pretty sure
that a lot of people, both pool players and spectators alike,
will be blessed to know what truly is the meaning of friendship.

:)

i think for me it's about what i don't want them to change. the room i shoot in the most has been doing some remodeling and they are being very hush hush about it. one good thing they did was put in a new gc5 with trip shim pockets, however they also removed a few tables and are doing construction in the back part of the room. the rumor is that is going to be an area for a dance floor and dj booth. yep, i am going to miss shooting there. it's a smoke free room with decent food nice servers, great gc tables that are regularly refelted. it'll be a shame leaving.

What is a Spotter?

1. More leagues

2. More league players.

3. More tournaments.

**Leagues and tournaments are good for pool.

The thermostat. I can't stand being hotter than hell while I'm trying to concentrate. Not to mention the gummy hands.

I guess my top three in terms of the pool room itself would have to be.

1. Better Maintenence on tables and balls (although he just got tables refelted yesterday and I watched a kid try and jump a ball like a fumbass just for the practice well done)

2. AIR CONDITIONING - I played in a room the other night and the house man if you can even call him that (I like to call him bump like on a log) erfused to put the air conditioner on after muktiple requests from different patrons. I calmly packed up informed the man i would not be paying and left.

3. Better house men - they are the reason I always came back when I was first starting out. Someone always up for a game with a tip or knowledge. In truth just someone to even talk to about our incredible game.

As you say smoke free ... But yet smoke free is killing many pool rooms ... Maybe that is the desired effect to kill off the pool room and maybe the game. I only wish there could be a compromise to where there were designated area's for smoke free and smokers ... just my opinion... It seems like smokers and pool often go hand in hand ... Just as drinking and pool does for many ... It is the seedy side of the game that no one seems to like or want to admit ... but it is definatly a part of it ...

I'd like to see everybody charged at the same rate. I frequent a pool hall nearby and there is a fairly large group of folks that are allowed to play free. They are never charged and have two tables that are basically for their use only. It just ticks me off to watch them play for hours and never have to pay a dime.

Wish we had a poolroom

Man I just wish my town or a town nearby just had a poolroom period. We used to have a room with 20-25 tables but it is now gone.

If we had a room I too would be all for the non-smoking aspects other than that I can deal with any other issues.

wow, really?

because I thought there was a choice/compromise. In between racks, walk your *ss outside and smoke for 3 minutes.

I thought florida was one of the biggest states for pool, they have been smoke free for what, 5 or more years now.

give me a break.

Nice Story

This is a great little story!

I wish I had someone around for me during my young years of playing that was as much of an inspiration.

Thank you for sharing!

give me a break.

Minnesota had a pretty large pool scene. We've had 5 pool halls close in the past 6 months due to the new smoking ban. The pool halls remaining aren't staying pool halls for much longer thanks to this ban.

My 3 things?

1. Stop getting rid of my 9 footers, and replacing them with barbox. If I want to play bar pool, I'll go to a bar. Why does everyone like these little tables?

2. Healthy food would be nice. for regulars that are at the poolhall constantly, it would be cool to have fruit rather than greasy junk food.

3. climate/atmosphere. If I want loud music, karaoke, and dancing I'll go to a club or bar. It also doesn't need to be 80 degrees in there.

FL isnt smoke free, only if they sell 10% or more of there income in food is it smoke free. Not sure about the 10% but its something like that.

A new room opened here a few months ago. As it's 80 miles to the nearest quality room (Grady's) I welcomed the news with great anticipation. It's turned out to be quite a disappointment however with only two 9ft diamond Smart tables and the rest all bar boxes. The room has posted hours but never opens on time...not even close so, if I drive out there on a Sat PM it's hard to say if they will be open or not. The owners seem to let certain groups play free for hours, the balls are so full of dirt it's hard to handle them at times. Music is typically blasting away etc. So ... 1. Get some 9 foot tables with table time rather than the stupid dollar coins, 2. Clean the equipment up and 3. Stop showing favoritism with free table time. 3+. Post your hours and keep to them.
