So my question is for anyone who can jump.

Let’s assume for argument purposes the jump cue is all the same weight taper, size, maker etc…
My question is what shape of the tip is best for just getting over a close ball.
Is flatter better – like a quarter shape or more rounded like a nickel or even dime shape.

Again, all focus being the shape of the tip.

I would like to see your thoughts.

Shape does not matter. The material the tip is made out of and technique is more important.

If you make contact exactly where you want to make contact, the tip shape does not mater.

If you don't make contact where you think you should, the flater tip is more tollerant of stroke errors.

I am still looking for some more opinions one way or the other.
I am thinking that many jumpers have not really even paid any attention to the shape of the tip.

My cheap J&J jumper has a phenolic tip with the radius of a nickel. I can jump draw, jump follow, jump masse, and jump anything else. If the tip were a dime radius, I could do all the same.

Tip shape does not matter.

You did say close jump shots. If I wanted the tip to get out of the way in a hurry I think a flat tip with the edges rounded so you are hitting with the shaft of the stick, and main mass of the stick, further away from center of the cue ball it would get out of the way quicker.

Video often shows that the closest jump shots are actually illegal, the cue ball hits the ferrule or shaft after it hits the tip. Sound often gives this away too but it is an argument that usually can't be won in a pool hall.

To jump easiest I guess it´s the hardest material and a flat tip imo, don´t do any good for playing position, control though.
There is a jump stick I saw that looked like a golfshaft that had a ferrule on with a flat tip that jumped very easily - didn´t like it all but it did jump easily.
I´m really a big cuenerd but that one wasn´t even close to my liking - someone here will probably know which one I mean though.

You're probably talking about the Dr Popper cue.
