What to do about a small ferrule crack

Got a very old meucci original that developed a small crack in the ferrule starting at the tip and extends about 3/16" in length. I can say that play doesn't seem to aggravate it; it's not getting any longer far as I can tell. There is a slight ping on alot of shots, but I'm not sure if it's from that or something else on the stick since it's so old. The inlays are starting to pop-out (the stick could use a total refinish, but that's another program).

Options on what I should do about it? Trim the ferrule/retip, eliminating the crack? Keep playing as/is (the playability is still fine), or maybe fill the crack with something and sand it down?

Appreciate any recommendations. I could post a picture if anyone feels its necessary.

Have the cue repair man turn the tenon down to 3/16 and install a new thicker ferrule.... I do it all the time. Their ferrules are thin and long and crack easily. There will be no noticeable change in feel.

If it is not making a noise play with it until it does.

Or...........

If you use an expensive tip you might want to consider changing the ferrule when you need a new tip.

Have it replaced with either a threaded on solid capped ferrule or at least turn the ferrule down to 5/16". Your tenon will crack if you keep playing with it.
 
Thanks for the advice guys. Is there a chance the tenon has cracked already and I didn't know it? Or would such a thing make the stick unplayable? Like I said, there is a little noise, a slight high-pitched ping, but it doesn't happen on all shots, just on ones with higher speed I think.

Hard to tell, if there is sideways motion, that might indicate problems with the tennon.
Take your shaft to a repair guy, it`s a cheap and simple repair.
Capped and shortened ferrule, like Cueman recomends is the way to go.

I am not suggesting he shorten the ferrule, but shorten the tenon and thread it.
To answer his question. Yes the tenon can already be cracked as when that ferrule crack gap spreads it almost always cracks the tenon. Solid capped is the best way to go in my opinion. I sell the material if your repairman needs a source for the material.
