What to do in a terrible slump?

Reduce your expectations to simply enjoying pool. Most of this stuff is just mental. Factors like emotions tend to ruin it. Instead just play a shot at a time and do not compare yourself to what you have done in the past or how well you should perform against an opponent. Do not pay attention to the score or where you are in a rack. Doing this will help your mental game and if it is basics your having a problem with, not to worry as it will re-appear when you are not looking for it. Just enjoy.

your right, considering how I have played in the past, people expect me to run out everytime I get a shot, and if I miss.....because I have dished out such pain in the past, I get ridiculed..

My problem is that Im looking to practice and go to big tourney's, i dont have the competition here to keep me sharp, 99% of these people have begged me "please let me win" so I let up... I think I have let up too many times, and now Im having trouble with my game... Basicaly all dressed up an no where to go... I dont even have plans for any tourneys, I have no goals, and now I have no game, I am a damn good teacher, and have thought of teaching the game to others and I have, and I really enjoy it....

Maybe, I'll just quit, with so many tapes and DVD's out, teaching the game looks like a dead end... I had my chance at fame once, I let it go, It didnt seem important at the time... If anyone is interested in a nearly new schon STL8 PM me..

I quit.....

2wld4u,

Sounds like you've got '8/9ball fever...it could be a simple mental adjustment...ex: your running the balls in little packs of three, we all do that even if we don't know it, then there are just the two balls left on the table. Should we change our thinking because just two balls remain? No, just add an imaginary third ball to play shape on, this continues the same thinking you demonstrated during the run from 1>the 7ball...of course, I could be wrong...:)

well, I already made my decision, I went to the practice table and I made every ball I wanted to, I found my game, unfortunatly I have no where to go with it.. I dont have that hunger, every year whether I go or not, I prepare for something big, and I have yet to attend.. something always comes up... I dont think its meant to be.. Im 30, I have been playing since I was 16, when I was 20 I could beat anyone, when I was 25 I could get out from anywhere, now at 30, I struggle to even get to the table, I really just cant get into it..

I feel my best years are behind me and I never took advantage of it.. now I spent all my time in bars, or money games after the tournaments.. I never really tried to make a name for myelf.. my fault, and Im really am sorry for bringing this up, I quess I just needed to let it out..

Yeah, yeah- that is basically where I am- who cares how many balls you can make!?! Pool is a stupid thing to know how to do.
I played for about 6 yrs, quit for 5, back again for 3 and am having trouble staying motivated. Basically, who gives a poopoo?!?

People get tired and frustrated when they set unrealistic goals. The constant struggle to achieve these goals is a very tiring thing that becomes an emotional strain. Goals should be more realistic and achievable. Not everyone is a competitor but most enjoy and play within their capabilities.

The competitor will not quit and neither will those who play for just the enjoyment of playing with friends. On the other hand, those with far reaching expectations will quit because the emotional strain got the best of them.

I suggest you take time to better understand were you fit and adjust accordingly. If you can not re-align yourself, then maybe this game is too demanding for you with its many physical and mental challenges.

I can handle the pysical and mental challenges... thats not it...

My expectations were justified..

If you want the honest to goodness truth........ I want to quit because I have to wear glasses...

I went undeafeated in a tourney sat night, with no glasses... Its not that I cant play, I sure cant play as good as I can... with glasses I can see better, but I have to change my game to do so... No pun but I feel handicaped..

I practiced a lil tonight, I only ran 5 racks, I simply cant hold it together, all i see is fuzz, and I know Im shooting mostly from memory, as I cant focus like I should be able to... My accuracy has went down 35% or more...

I have considered contacts, but Im afraid to spend the money on contacts only to have the same problems.. with glasses, everything looks smaller, my ferrule, the balls, and my depth perception is off... It bugs the heck out of me...

To win, it takes every ounce of engery I have to run a rack, After 2 hours Im done.. I had to sleep all day today to recover from saturday... This is terrible.. I felt kinda drunk, so to me pool is getting to be a bad habbit...lol

I can beat anyone, as long as I can get r done in 2 hours or less.. after that Im wasting my time...

Right, Ive have kicked everyone in my area's butt more than once... I really cant see going through all the trouble... Its pointless... I have alway's played because it was a challenge, but right now the challenge isnt worth the effort...
