What type of rubber bumper is best?

This is a gadget I tried and actually liked.
It is the Limbsaver X1 vibration dampening bumper.

I have them on two of Eddie Taylor's cues,,,

He used to endorse them and had Bill Schick install them for him,,,

Eddie had to say that he played better with those bumpers on,,

I doubt it,,but yes,,,they are Very Cool,!!!

I like the recessed bumpers.

If you want protection, the more the bumper protrudes, the greater protection.

These little stumps, like on the cheap Dale Perry cues (and others) are pretty neat.

Neither pictures are mine.

If you are going to have a custom cue made...what would you go wiith?
I like the stem type. They are easy to replace if they wear and protect the cue. I don't really like the classic Balabushka type held in with a screw. For one they are too big and require a large opening into the butt cap. On a slimmer butt you will find butt caps even cracking due to the thin walls. If you go with the same type of bumper that is smaller like 7/8 to 3/4 they don't provide the best protection. The stem type also make a nice finished look. They also have a stem type bumper that screws in, (the bumper itself has a molded thread) I like those as well.

Keith makes the bumpers himself from a custom compound. He will only tell me ancient chinese secret... Most of the time it's glued in, can't be removed. As of late he is doing this more.

you could go old school

and have a bumperless cue like the early brunswicks. i am getting more request to make cues like that....

The question isn't which one is best, but why do we use them? They are vibration dampeners. Play with a cue, then play with the bumper out. Try a few cues and you will feel the difference. How you want the bumper to look on the cue is another story.
