What was Brunswick thinking?

Shiver me timbers.

I've been watching the ladies on TV the past couple of days. Great shooting Jennifer B.

OK, what am I talking about. I don't think I've seen a thread about this but I really haven't had the time to read everything lately. So if this is a repeat, I'm sorry.

This is not a cut to the ladies, it is just a fact. Generally women are a little shorter than men. Right? I'm mean this is a statistical fact. So what was Brunswick thinking when they used that super wide skirted table? The gals were having to use the bridge all over the place. Come on Brunswick, think on your feet. Who would buy such a table anyway that makes you use the bridge more often than you normally would have to?

brunswick is trying to sell a product.

I see this as a distinct advantage to the former snooker players like Karen, Allsion, Kelly Fisher etc...because their so familiar with the bridge from being on the big six by twelve surface of a snooker table.

The table looked to me like a standard Gold Crown. Certainly nothing special about a "super wide skirted table".

different tables
for different folks

they debuted that table at the delta classic last year
some people liked the new style
I personally didn't like the wide rails
it would screw with my game

Jennifer Barretta is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5'4". If it were Ewa Lawrence, I'm certain you wouldn't have noticed a thing. Besides, don't underestimate Jenn's ability to use the bridge. She does just fine with it.

By the way, I think the table looks awesome.

I doubt it really affected the match, a GC has pretty wide rails too. How much wider is it an inch or 2?
BTW, I that table is really ugly, but as somebody's earlier post said "different strokes for different folks."

Besides which, Brunswick isn't going to provide tables if they can't promote what they want and why in the world would they have a GC4 as their feature table? They're not having problems selling that model.

When I saw the table the question that I had to myself was...would I buy and own it? I didn't particularly like the wide rails but what seemed worse was the sharpness of each corner at the pocket and the picture which came to mind was taking a turn around the table too quickly without being careful and eventually being denutted. No thanks...no sale.

As I posted in JennB's forum:

Hey Jenn... I saw the match as well, and one thing that both my wife and I noticed right off the bat was how WIDE those rails were on the table!! It appeared that from the rail to the edge of the table was at least 10", which has to make it harder for you to shoot on. Was it more challenging? I noticed that it was the reason you couldn't make the jump shot in the first few games...

Ross,

Those rails were at least 8" wide! When I was trying to get in position for a jump shot I kept sliding off...it was pretty funny. The table played very well, though.

I have hit balls on this style table at the last BCA trade show. IMO the width of the rail is not the problem. The flat surface did! Making for major adjustments in bridging comfortably.

As far as this table style being a Brunswick feature table, they can make and feature anything they want if they put up the cash for the events. The pro players are plenty good enough to adjust, as long as they have sufficient time to practice and get use to the difference from a GC or Olhausen table.

Note Ms. Barretta's closing comment, "The table played very well, though."

Nice looking table, but rails are way to wide. And I recently priced the table at a brunswick dealer, the price is WIDE also, about twice the price of a gciv...

I believe I can truthfully say that Jennifer would not have that problem :p

Never mind the wide rails, the pockets are way too generous.
Players are missing balls at the Bike and they're going in.
I tried the practice table, the cushions bounce funny on the third rail. The angle is almost eliminated on hard 3-rail kicks. The cushion profile looks funny. It looks rounded on top like Murray tables. Very far from the GC I and II cushion profile.

I haven't shot on one yet but watching the table on TV every second day the pockets certainly need to be changed. I was watching the World Pool Masters yesterday Chang vs Lely and I swear Chang must have missed at least three balls during the match that wouldn't go in on any other table, as much as I like the appearance of the table playability has to come first.
