What Would You Do 8-Ball Series: Shot #1

The 10-ball series fizzled out due to some harsh criticism, so I figured we would give 8-ball a try.

Shot #1 comes from a game between Corey Deuel and John Schmidt. It is Corey's shot, and he has the solid colored balls.

Notes: The 2-ball in the upper right cannot be directly pocketed from the current position of the cueball.

Please share your shot selection, with a detailed reasoning behind your choice. If anyone manages to pick the shot that the professional has chosen, they will receive a well justified measure of praise.

Bank the 7 ball in the pocket where the 2 is.
That 2 makes that pocket so big for this kind of bank, and actually it would be even better to touch the 2 with the 7 so that there is an easier shot at the 2 afterwards...

I don't see any practical safety here.
I bank the seven off the 2, just hard enough to move it into the open. This affords me the opportunity for position on the 6. If I miss the bank, my opponent still has to work very hard to get out.

I hope I'm seeing the right colors on the balls!

Hey Chris, lets say you have ball in hand with this lay out and your solids, whats your first shot?

Shoot the 8-ball in the corner and head to the bar.

"But-but-but Freddie, won't that result in a 'split-shot' with the nearby 7-ball, resulting in a foul? Or is that the reason for heading to the bar -- to escape the wrath of the opponent/opponent's team griping?"

:p

-Sean <-- agrees with banking the 7-ball straight back into that made-larger pocket, with the opportunity to dislodge the 2-ball

Yes to everything!

Chris, if you keep doing these, in your initial scenario set up, please identify which ball is the 8-ball. I truly couldn't tell in this screen cap.
