Sorry for the repost, I realized I made a crucial mistake posing my original question...

Just curious what you guys opinion is on this. I am considering a new cue. These are the ideas I have.

1 - Lucasi Hybrid Classic Series Cue - LHE10 - $279
2 - Predator Ikon Cues - IKON1 - $509
3 - Lucasi Hybrid Classic Series Cue - LHE10 - $279 and Predator 314 2nd Generation Shaft - $245

Im not that concerned with the visual impact of the butt. I am intrigued by the Lucasi Hybrids butt and grip

Any thoughts?

Hey Mike,

To be honest, I am not very fond of either of cues. The Lucasi grip seems too spongy and I have had very bad luck with Predator shafts although the IKON is a cool idea.

I'm not sure what you are looking for exactly, but you may want to consider an OB cue as well. They are not fancy but I like the hit on mine. Another possibility is a Schon, you can get a relatively nice one for the price.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks

Dan

Im not one of the "GUYS" but I would pick the predator if it were me..if I HAD to get a production cue. If I didnt, I would get a nice Custom for that price. just my 2cents

Well clearly you like the Lucasi Hybrid, so why not buy it and play with it for a few weeks? If you don't like how it hits, then buy a 314^2 shaft for it.

Worst case scenario is that you end up with your third option.

Cues

Are those your only choices? I can think of a lot more for over $500.

1) Buy a Schon 2) Buy a custom off of here that's for sell
3 Buy a Sneaky Pete from a good cuemaker

P.S. No special shaft in the world will make you a better player. And the 314 shafts affect the balance of a cue, because they have a hole in the shaft at the end that is foam filled.

Thanks so much for your, and everybody's replies. I do understand about how a shaft isint going to make me a better player, but I suppose like everything else there are so many differing opinions. To some it seems as if the Predator 314 is the greatest thing since sliced bread... It seems the people here don't agree... What is the general opinion here regarding the 314?

Also... Buying a custom cue here is an interesting thought, but I have to be honest, I would have NO IDEA where to start when purchasing a custom...

I would choose the OB-1 over the 314 100% of the time (I use 2 OB-2s and a OB Break shaft). The answer is clear: workmanship and great customer service.

Thanks for the input. I actually spoke to Ozone about an OB shaft for my cuetek thunderbolt (stop snickering) lol

Educate me on the difference between the OB and the Predator if you will. Im not challenging you I really am trying to learn.

Thanks so much!

Well I have used both shafts. I have broken the ferrule on one Predator shaft and the pin in another. Believe me I don't abuse my cues and have never had this happen before. The predator shaft also seems like it has a "twangy" sound when it hits.

OBs shafts are very solid and hit the way I like them to hit. I like the feel and feel very comfortable with it. I also never had one break. The customer service is also another strong suit. If you ever have any questions about their products, just ask, and you will get an answer.

I'm not sure about Predator but I know OB backs their product 1000% and I'll never go anywhere else for a shaft.

I have to agree. For $500 range in this market you have so many choices. And picking up a Schon is a great start. If you then wanted to change to either a 341 or Z2 shaft you'd be able too with ease. There are many options even on AZ in the wanted for sale section in your range.Just my 2 cents and good luck!

I just switched from a soft hitting muecci with an OB1 to a custom sneaky pete by Mike stacey. It is my first custom cue and picked it up on AZ for 275 and it has 2 shafts and the cue was brand new. If you like a soft hit a OB1 is a good shaft, but after playin with my stacey I found that I personally prefer a stiffer hit. Also, because the ob1 gets so much spin it made me lazy and I wasnt stroking the ball properly or following through. If it was me, Id watch the For Sale section for an affordable custom sneaky pete. Its just a cue, but I think its made a positive impact on my game, stroke and follow through. All personal preference though...just my $.02

I'm an old timer and i've never played with one of these high tech shafts and never will, i'm too old to relearn how to play.
But all i have to say on the subject is that Greenleaf,Mosconi,Lassiter or any of the rest of the old time greats never had these shafts and they played as good as anyone today that uses them.

I'll agree with the others, Schon would be a good choice for the money. I think you could pick up a nice Schon for that amount of money or a nice lower end custom would be a nice choice as well. My 2 cents :<).

I agree. Dont buy a cue for the new technology. You will adjust you game to the cue.imho. A nice custom sneaky in your pricerange will resell no problem on here. A production cue might take a slight loss.
