You are correct Kat, but if you make the 4 cross side you MUST shoot again. Can't call safe, make a ball, and turn the table over as in BCA/VNEA.
Here I would bank the 4 to mid table & roll thru to stuff the CB beind the 3. Leaving the 5 in place becomes a safety valve - offensive or defensive - after my opponent kicks at the 8. If he pushes the 3 against the 8, I've also got the 4 open to use for offense/defense, and the 5 still in place as a safety valve.
I thought about this.. but fact of the matter is, this is a skill level 5 and you guys want to him perform a touch shot with about 2 inches for room of error.
If he blows it and hits it to hard, it's over.

Shoot straight at the 4 knocking it into the middle of the table and hiding the cue ball behind the 3. If opponent kicks and makes contact with the 8, then there's a good chance that the 8 ball will be moved out of the way of the 3 ball. If he or she does not make contact with the 8, then under BCA rules, I would get ball in hand and be able to shoot the 3 up into the opposite corner or bank it if I'm feeling good. But, I do not know APA rules, so this may not be the best option.
