I am not sure that one can go to the short (top, in the WEI) without a kiss. I might kick into the rail fist, then Y with varying amounts of R spin, more to go longer. Also, drawing the CB would shorten it, hitting top would lenghten the path of W.

I agree with what you are saying but I would probably try going back and forth off R, miss and leave my opponent to shot Y off the rail ;) and hope for something better.

Assuming a player has the white CB and wants to go SLS (short rail, long rail, short rail), how does he/she adjust accordingly between the 3 different red ball position?

Also, any other possible shots?

All comments welcome and be friendly to each other :)
You can also play the four- or six-rail shot off yellow, I think. Playing the three-cushion shot off red would be adjusted by amount of side, I would think.

Yes- I am WEI handicapped- re: the new version anyway...

I like the 6 railer- cross the yellow, to end rail w/ L english, into a 5 railer.

Man, I want to play some 3c instead of putting my 8.5 in at ye olde salt mine:(

All three positions could be played as extended plus twos off yellow SLLS.Also the three rail bank into yellow with speed could send W shooting across to any position. You'ld be accused of luck though. By the way, TAP TAP for changing the forum. This is exactly the kind of useful dialog that was needed.

Buy Little Joes DVD on cue ball control. Simply take your tangent and clock the CB. Simple after you calibrate your stroke and clock.

If I were forced to play SLS, I would hit high follow and take around a half-ball for each, varying the sidespin to adjust the path. Frequently, this will double-bank the red to the top right corner area for position if you play a speed to just make the point and hit slightly fuller as the red approaches the top rail, although the yellow is small enough from that angle that extreme just-make-the-point precision is required in this case.

In these types of positions, I try to find a way to make the ball frozen on the cushion larger via choice of approach angle, or else find a way to play off of it towards the other bigger ball.

There are two ways to make the yellow relatively bigger: (1) LSS where you make it a 2-way shot by coming off of the last S rail with a shallow enough angle (due to reverse) that it can miss the yellow and catch it on the way back from the opposite S rail; (2) cross-table where you have the full width of the yellow to score against since the rail doesn't cut off any of it from that direction.

Unfortunately, LSS off of the right side of the top red isn't an option because of two kisses: either banking the red into the yellow, or else into the cueball' in the bottom left of the table (either directly after the 2nd rail, or after the 3rd right before scoring). That is why I chose the cross-table.

Here are my preferred solutions.

Here are some slightly more artistic options that I still might play depending on exact positions

A lot of very creative (and practical) answers. I will print this out and bring it with me to CaromCafe next time.

Thank you very much :):)
