Whatever happened to the ABP (association of billiards professionals)? Are they still active? Are any events actually ABP sanctioned? I thought the idea of the organization was a good one. I think pool desperately needs some sort of governing body in pursuit of evolving the profession forward, whereby professional pool players and the sport overall receive the same kind of sponsorship, compensation, etc as other sporting organizations.

I know the ABP was involved with the US Open last year, helping to insure timely payout of monies owed to players who placed in that event. Other than that, the organization seems to be non-existent. Are they still an active governing body?

For what it's worth, they did sanction the last SBE 10 Ball tournament, though the event did not conform to the ABP stated sanctioning guidelines regarding winner break. And it is unclear if the seedings were per ABP guidelines but it didn't appear to be. I think that's the only event so far.

Get off Charlie's back! The French Open has been on.

I'm not on Charlie's back at all. I thought they had a noble cause. I was hoping to hear that the organization was still a going entity as I thought they were really doing a good thing for the sport.

it was a stab at how the abp is only interested in benefitting a select few, regardless of how noble it may appear on paper.
