whats a good playing tip?

I am used to a pretty hard tip, I have been using these water buffalo tips which are very hard but the last few Ive had put on were not hard, actually pretty soft and when I tried to shape them they kinda fell apart. So I do still like the hard water buffalos, but what is another good hard tip? I used to use a sniper but I was liking the non layered tip quite a bit. Any info is very much appreciated, would like to hear from others who are used to/like a very hard tip.
 
Have you ever played with a milk dud tip(elkmaster soaked & pressed)?
You could also check with azer ''hangemhigh'' he makes the pressed triangles.
Elkmasters & Triangles are both non layered tips.
The milk dud I make is on the med to med hard side. Let me know if your interested in any & I`ll hook you up with some, there only $4.00 a tip mailed in the US.

I have played with a milk dud, just a few hits. The ones I saw were a little messy looking before they were on the cue so I didnt get any. I use an 11.25 or so diameter and for some reason I have problems with tips falling apart when they get down to that size.
 
I'll second what Jeff said. His tips should be just what you want, and they are great. I use them. I have not tried the ones from Tommy yet, but he is quite reputable and I am sure the quality is very good as is eveything he sells. Try these first.
 
best for me :

one layered: Lipro - Triangle. both are similiar and hits really good.
multi-layered: Onyx, gives you really good spin on cueball, you will be surprised as I was.
 
I have used several tips over the years and so far the Med Kamui Brown is holding up to my abuse without glazing or mis-cueing. It holds its form and does what I need it to do even after the crushing breaks I put on it. It is basically a hard tip but not super hard. I am happy with it.
I loved the triangle I used but It couldn't hold its form, but I break and play with the same cue so it's to be expected.
 
I hate these type of threads and they occur about once a week. In my shop I'm asked this same question about 10 times a week. I answer everyone the same way. There are over a 100 different brands and hardnesses of tips on todays market and they all play well, for somebody, or they would be out of business. I can tell people what the most expensive tip is or what the best selling tip for this month is but what is the best tip for you? Only you can determine that and that is through experience. It can get expensive, but, that's part of the cost of finding the right tools for your billiard experience.

wait, what's a good tip????? i'm using a talisman hard tip and i'm happy enough with it. triangles work just as well as anything else.

well thats why I described the type of tip I like....... and ones I have used. Then I simply asked what hard tips people on here are using so I can try out a few more to try and narrow down one I like. If you hate these type of threads, and people ask you the same question 10 times a week then why did you respond?

where'd you get the WB tips? i'd like to get a softer version because i dig them too. i find the brown ones to be a little softer and the black ones to be nice and hard
