Well I may get some argument here, but as diagrammed this shot is makable in the opposite side without any tricks such as double kissing. A local shortstop showed this to me; he could make this shot more than 50% of the time. You hit the 8 on the right side much thinner than you think would work--maybe about 1/4 ball or slightly less. You have to hit it quite hard for it to work. How it works is a bit of a mystery to me; I think that by hitting it very hard you're pinching the OB into the rail in such a way as to change its natural angle.
I just tried it and made it twice in about 12 tries. I was careful to set it up to match the diagram. Those of you with tables, go try it. Remember, thinner and harder than you would normally think.

Randy's shot is the shot im shooting.I think you would probably shoot it yourself if you ever took time out from the forum to practice.lol

If you'd give it a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with just how automatic it can be.

Though, if you hit it perfectly bad, the cue ball can kiss back into the corner pocket.
 
In this situation I go for the hero shot. I'm banking for the corner pocket with the speed to leave the 8 behind the 9 in case I miss. I don't like the any of the safeties because none of them will pose any problem for a good player unless you get a lucky roll and double kiss the cue ball behind the 9. Selling out by leaving it open or even scratching is much more likely than leaving a real safety.
 
I usually go for the dumbest offensive shot available so in this case I would try to double kiss it into the side pocket.
 
I like KK9's shot, positioning 8b near side pocket and cb up the table, due to its ease of execution. If the 9 is on the bottom rail then the leave is even better (coz hard to make 8 and get shape on 9 for your opponent).

That said, I made Neil's shot (pg 2) at a tourney a couple of weeks ago...it was on the 1 and yes, I got out after! But I don't want to shoot that one for my cash every day!

Oops, sorry I missed that Neil. It was kind of in jest, but I have seen the shot made a few times before. It's one of those "you'll either look like a complete hero or a complete idiot" shots, LOL. I personally like the two-railer if I'm going offensive, but in some conditions it just doesn't work.

I don't mess with the cuetable diagrams... But, since we're going with some crazy offensive shots, how about some low left spin into the rail first, on the right side of the 8, to push the 8 in front of the side pocket. Then, the cueball goes straight across the table to the other side rail and back into the 8, putting it into the upper side pocket, and leaving you perfect on the 9.
