Seriously, no responses yet? Wow... OK, I'll go first. Since I'm usually wrong anyway, let's get it out of the way.
I can't see anything good coming from this situation. (With me shooting, of course. With my ability and lack thereof.) I would try to play safe by hitting off the left side of the 8, with the thought of the cue coming off the top long rail and hopefully down in behind the 9.
I will be curious to see how it should be done.

There are a couple of shots here.
This is what I would shoot, left center (or high left to kill the cue ball) , firmer and thinner than you might think. Not an easy shot but certainly do-able with practice.

So many options.
1) Assuming you made 7 balls on the break, push to the foot rail
2) Using speed dial, call Neil. He knows exactly how to handle this
3) Have a buddy pull the fire alarm

I agree with TATE in post #3.
I just went to the table and played with this a little. Tate's idea worked(mostly) the 8 ball does exactly what Tate's diagram shows but my cue ball ends up near the top right corner because I am using a little follow.
The important thing to me is to get the 8 down to the bottom rail and don't scratch. 25% of the time I was putting the 8 behind the 9

Play the double kiss:
Aim slightly thicker than a 1/2 ball hit with low left, cutting the 8 to the right.
The cue ball goes one rail behind the 9. The 8 travels to the middle of the opposite short rail.

I tried another shot and it seems to be more repeatable. I hit the 8 ball just left of center and try for the double kiss. It sends the 8 up to the short rail on the right and the cue ball to the short rail to the left.
This seemed to be much easier to get good results from.
We must have been typing at the same time.:embarrassed2:

I was hoping some one would post this.This is the same way i would shoot
it every time.Once you practice this its really not that hard to do.
bank the 8-ball to the bottum rail by the 9-ball an play the cueball 3 rails on the rail as the 9-ball he will still see the 8-ball but has too bank it allso
I'd still play the double kiss.
On my first try the cue ball froze directly on top of the 9. The 8 wen to the middle of the other short rail.
I can't argue with that.
Yes. I tried this again hitting the rock low and it goes behind the nine real nice.
I like that shot.Looking at your diagram one make think that looks easy, but when you try it you will realize just how easy it is to sell out.That's a tougher shot than what it looks like.
