What's The Answer For the WPBA?

How can this work for the players out of the top ten that don't have a full paying sponsor? Even most of the ones in the top ten are having a problem financially. The very top players use to make $60,000 to $100,000 or more a year on this tour. Now with the competition the top player is lucky to end the year with $40,000, less with their expenses.

Entry fees for 8 tournaments= $4,800

Travel and Hotel = $10,000 to $12,000

Food and drinks = $3,000

Time off job or giving lessons and exhibitions= $?

What's the answer? To put the few matches on ESPN costs big bucks. They have been on for years and don't draw flies. Maybe put a halt to the TV and put that money into purses. As far as getting many casinos to put up the kind of money charged for a tournament goes, those days are gone for now and maybe forever. I hope with the new-year coming and some new faces on the board that they can get back on track. The same model will not work anymore. If this keeps up instead of 64 players a tournament it will be more like 24 that have full paying sponsors or are rich.

I look at it this way. It is like any business of job. If you don't make enough from the job you have or from the business your in you do something else.

Most people play pool for the enjoyment or passion. If you can support yourself from it more power to you. If you can't be like the rest of us and do something else. In any sport, entertainment, or arts only a very few are fortunate enough to survive and be among the top. Those are the very very sucessful. The rest are the starving artists.
