What's the best shot you've ever made? I made this shot when a new co-worker wanted to shoot some after work. It's not the most difficult shot I've made but the reaction was priceless, I ran down to the eight playing 8 ball and left myself something like the diagram I'd been practicing jumping using the rail so decided to try it (hoping for a cheap hit maybe use the six as a backboard) I remember my first thought was holy s**t I broke the light the cueball came off the rail so high , anyways the cue ball landed on top of the eight and just chopped it in clean. When I went to look for my opponent I couldn't see him (he was passed out on the floor) he just got up and left, funny thing was it was our first (and only game).

I cannot remember alot of the shots I have made, this one I will never forget. 8-ball.

Score was 4-2 and I made that kick to complete a tough ERO and win a trip to Vegas to play on the juniors team when I was 16 in a race to 5. It was a singles competition with the 5 top single players in the tournament forming the team.

I have made tougher and more impressive shots (play any straight pool and you get alot of cool ones), but given the situation that was the best shot I ever made or it is damn close. The tournament was tough, and had I lost I would have been on the B-side. My opponent was this guy that I did not like very much and most of my friends in the league wanted me to beat him bad. Now that same guy is my best friend of about 10 years now, he got his trip on the B-side. We play alot of pool and play pretty damn even now, he got me back in our first big tournament by knocking me to the B-side of a $100 entry tourney a couple rounds into the A-side. I have had to bring up that juniors shot and match now and then to stop his yammering on about that. :)

One of these two.

We were playing 3ball, like 7 or 8 people. someone had a 2. I was last. I broke and didnt make nothing but left a duck, yep you guessed it. 3 balls in on my second stroke to make the tie, everyone was cheering like the damn superbowl or something when the 3rd ball slow rolled and wobbled its way in.

or

We were playing chicago, a rotation game with 15 balls. This guy at the bar was like " I bet you a buck you miss this shot" It was a long bank. I Made it.
then two or three balls later I got hooked and had some way hard kick shot. He was like double or nothing. I said what the hell. Didnt even look twice and BAM right in.

Not much money just my favorite shots

Well, I have my doubts that I could do it again, but I made this shot once:

well not the most impressive shot ive ever made, but the fact that i did it twice in a row counts for a lot. playing snooker - the black was about 1" off the long rail, 6" from the side pocket. cueball was frozen on the other long rail, giving me about a 70 degree cut into the side. i looked at it for quite a while, not even sure if the black could drop, then sunk it to win the game. my opponent left, and my friend walked in and i told him what shot i just hit to win the game. i set it up - he immediately declared it an impossible shot due to not being able to see any pocket... so i sunk it again on my first try.

however i think the most impressive shot ive hit was a jump-masse to bank a long ball in (called), using my 80 dollar dufferin sneaky pete.

Well to start, i messup by putting draw after pocketing the 3 ball and leaving me behind the 4 ball. I thought about the bank shot, but since i just put on new LePro tips on my cues, i decided to brake out the Excaliber and try out the Masse. This is the second time i have ever actually pocketed a ball using this type of masse. After pocketing the two ball, i followed it up with this shot:

Playing in an 8-ball tournament, my previous shot was a difficult cut shot from the rail and I got a slightly bad roll with a kiss on the 4-ball and ended up like this with my opponent having only the 8-ball at the jaws...

I jacked up, fired the 5-ball in and drew the cueball to "A" and proceeded to make the 4-ball in the same pocket and run out. The angle on the 4-ball was awkward as well, cueball stopped kind of in the middle of good position for either foot corner pocket.

A couple of very rewarding shots under pressure:

On a hill-hill situation in a match against Mika Immonen in our club championship final sometime in the 90s on a very tough table with non-forgiving pockets and worn cloth:

Crappy position play from the 8-ball left me this 9-ball in the side against Hohmann at Eurotour, I was leading 7-4... and made the 9 in the side with the cueball frozen to the short rail. Only shot in which Hohmann showed appreciation in that match. Beat him 9-4, but I doubt I'd beaten him if I'd have missed that shot and let him to break at 7-5.

Any shots made under severe pressure ?

Of course all of us have made unbelievable shots in many years of play, as well as unbelievable mistakes... the three shots i remember have in common the pressure situation, even if for different reasons.

#1. My first time playing on television. It was live (very rare here..), 3-4 pm on the National Channel, Rai2. Score, 1-1, race to nine. I was facing this situation, and even if there were maybe better options, I elected to play this double carom with the 1, to pocket it with a stopshot and have good position for the runout. I took a lot of time for this shot, measuring everithing with care, and made it. I won 9-2, and after reviewing the tape i discovered that both the commentators agreed that it had been a lucky shot...

#2. Team competition, i was playing 8ball and that was a deciding match. 4-4, race to 5. I'm at the table, i have only the 8, my opponent the four in front of the corner pocket.

I elected to play a slow safety bank, with the 8 just kissing the 4. I made it, and my opponent left me an open shot to win the match. Don't ask me to repete this shot...

#3. This is the one i will never forget, not much for the difficulties of the shot, but for the high pressure of the situation. That was the finals of a National Championship event, in the biggest Italian Casino. Never played in front of so many people, good money and important ranking points on the line. Race to 10, after trailing 9-5 I came back to 9-9 and this was the final shot. I pocketed that ball, that's all i can remember...

I'm ready to post again in a new thread: "What's the most stupid mistake you've ever made?"

;) Tom

Nice shots, Tom ! Especially the last hill-hill 9-ball. Those kind of shots bring the house down... :D

Here's one tough run-out I made a month ago at our Finnish 8-ball ranking event final against Jarkko Honkanen, a frequent Eurotour visiting player. Race to 8 and I'm trailing 7-6 with a following situation. I'm playing with solids here. Played a slow roll shot with a lousy speed from the rail and had this nightmare of a situation:

START(
%CT9X8%EO1N7%HQ1P1%IU4D3%L[1D6%Mp0D6%PV1Q6%eB5a5

)END

Couldn't shoot up-down shot with the three, because I would've hit the nine and probably leave me with no shot on the 5-ball. So I cut the almost 90 degree angle shot on 3-ball with maximum right English, split the wicket with the 3-ball, cueball takes off from the cushion towards 8-ball, and 8-ball caroms from the 5-ball to the middle of short rail at "B" and 5-ball goes down and cueball stops in the middle of the table at "A". Damn, not a position I wanted for the 5-ball (nor for the 8-ball):

%_W4E0%`T8K1%aQ9P5%b_4O1%cZ7I2%dX0C6
)END

I got myself together and banked the 8-ball to pocket "C" to get myself to hill-hill.

Broke at hill-hill 7-7, was running out the rack and had 8-ball and two of my last balls on a stop-stop-stop position and was shooting the last angled ball to get easy position for the 3-ball 99,99%-secure run-out and had a massive kick/skid, bad contact, and missed the ball with more than half a diamond  :( .. and that skid cost me the ranking event victory, didn't have another shot. And after all the hard work I made in the previous rack... sigh ! No skids all day, and of course it had to come in the final rack of the tournament...

I know I've made some great shots, but my memory stinks. So I'll have to show you one I hit this past Saturday. 8-ball bar box tournament. Opponent breaks and makes 3 ball on the break. Plays the 14 in the corner, now he has declared high balls. I'm looking on, wondering how I could possibly win with his 10, 12 and 15 blocking the corner pocket I need. Then he plays the 9 in the side but scratches. I have ball in hand and thought if I don't do something about that corner, I can't win this game. I called the 4 in the corner (off the 10). He said 'nice shot' before I even played it. I replied 'It's only nice if it hits the 12 and the 15 on its way.' I hit it with a little speed, it caromed off the 10 to the rail into the 12 and 15 and into the corner pocket. Broke everything out and I ran out. I went on to lose the match 4 to 3.

MY BEST & MOST MEMORABLE SHOT!

With out a doubt it was in Detroit back in '76. Playing a BIG race to 11 with a local pimp (Beaver) for 14K. I was on the hill & played perfect position on the Nine. It was like the Nine on the spot and you would have "Ball In Hand"! I MADE IT & TOOK DOWN 28 LARGE! I will never forget that shot!

First game in an 8-ball tournament I ran out to here and sank the 8. My favorites are when you have to guess on the amount of English to use to kick in a ball.

Memorable shot in 14.1

Nice shots...

This is one of the most memorable ones...

Playing straight pool in a tournament, my opponent misses the break ball but misses the rack as well and leaves the only available ball behind the rack. Feeling confident, I get my jump cue and jump over the rack, make the one-ball, split the pack open and scratch in the far head corner pocket

Has to be one of the most memorable matches. Didn't have much chance and later I was trailing 58-12 in a race-to-75... and run 63-out !! :p

Here's the sort of great and a sort of unlucky shot (Tried to describe the jump with the arrows :)

the best two shots in a row i ever made was i was on a 6/12 life table i put a ball in the corner and a ball in the middle of the table the i fired it in the opposite corner and followed the cue ball in. then i told my friend what i did and set it up again and fired it in and followed the cue right after it.....:)

Well since were on a 12 footer I have 6 in a row that's pretty good. LOL Having the opening break shot in a 5 handed game playing golf I got perfect position on the second hole for a table run. Maybe that's just two good shots but I've done it several times. Well when I could see that is.

I would never even shoot that shot that way. :p

Only two rail kick available was if you went to the top rail first. Still, always up for learning, let me know what shot you recommend in the displayed position. Thanks, Celtic.

Basically nail the shot hard with alot of left hand siding and just a touch low. The english kills off the 3rd rail and straighten the shot straight into the 6. Hit % is huge playing the hit like that. The 3 lines messing around at the bottom are all possible outcomes, you can make the 6 in the corner (A), you can hit the 6 fairly full and get it on the rail and perhaps behind the 7 with the cueball staying low (B), or you can hit the 6 thin over the top and get it to bank out straight off the rail and out to the triangle area while the cueball goes to the side rail and has a decent chance of being behind the 7 ball (C).

The hit on that shot is huge, set it up and shoot it afew times and get the feel of how it plays and you will see that once you know how it's done you can be real confident hitting the 6 consistently and from there any number of goods things can happen. On the other hand no matter how many times you shoot the 2-3 railer you showed you are toying with hitting the 7 ball and losing the game, and most of the time you even make the hit on the 6 (which takes a great shot as it is) you are in trouble of leaving the 9ball combo.

I think the 3 railer I showed is alot easier to hit and has alot more good outcome possibilities and higher chances of them taking place where you dont lose the game or at least turn the table back into a problem for your opponent.
