What's the deal with Dale Perry's (1 of 1) $100 cues? Smoke & Mirrors?

Hey I just checked out a couple of these Dale Perry Cues a friend bought.
What is the deal here?
How can he be selling these custom handmade cues for a C Note on Ebay?
The materials alone add up to Half that, Stainless steal joints, wraps, inlays, woods, let alone man power. Even if these things are built in China as one Cue maker told me, and the guy making it got a dollar a day, there would still be no profit!
Does anyone know the real scoop?

I know someone who hocks Chinese made cues locally.
He is a former player of the year .
He says they cost $40 each, wholesale .
He sells them for $100 all day.

I've heard they actually shoot pretty good for that 100 dollars too. Kind of curious if anyone has ever hit with one. Wouldn't mind having a cue I can throw in my backseat during South Dakota winters and not worry about losing a bunch on it.

I have had 3 or 4 of them in for repairs,
The glue was failing on all of them, ferules and joint collar's Inlays falling out .
One was suppose to be a 1500.00 custom DP :thud: < the shaft was cracked on that cue.
I almost fell off my shop stool when the customer said he paid 1500.00 for that cue from a from a friend

A 39 dollar lucky will hold up better.

Cues

Thanks, I've never looked at Luckys although I do like McDermott's. I'll take a look. :)

I have had the wrap fail off on one Lucky, and I have sold about 20 of them.

I have never had a DP cue in that it didn't have something loose..
I don't sale DP' cues so all of my experience is from the ones that have come in for repairs .

I think Schmelke make a good 100.00 cue and much better quality then DP and lucky.
You have allot more of options with Schmelke too .

I have also heard DP play good too.

I own 3 DP cues. Never had a problem and I like the hit very much. Your mileage my vary.

I bought one at auction

Easy on the eyes, yet nothing special for sure. Hits the ball fair. Shaft wood poor quality. Not worth $100 imo, just barely better than a starter cue that would come in a set with a new table. Barely above what you would find at wal mart, dunhams, most sporting good stores....I wouldnt give $25 for 10 more just like it, just my opinion.

DP cues

I bought one new for $130 and I have owned many $1500+ cues-- I am a decent player-- have placed second and third this year in the Tri-State. I actually say that my DP plays great and I alternate it with my Richard Black for tournament play- not one problem in 3 years with it. So my own view on them is based on one DP cue presently owned and played regularly. When it comes to cues less than $200 sometimes you can find one that plays great, in my 40 years experience. In 1996 I picked thru about 200 $50 cues at a patio.com chain for my 10 year old son and I still have that cue today and could use that cue in a tourney or gamble game with no excuses.
