What's the deal with the Mosconi cup team?

Can someone please explain to me how the Mosconi team is really chosen? I went to the Mosconi cup last year and was disgusted at Archer for allowing his child to squeal, "I love you, daddy" over and over again during match play. The comaraderie between big game hunters and PITA members would have been more than team USA had. I would say that the European team members watched their mates play just about every match. Team USA was nowhere to be seen during match play, it was sad. It just seems like team USA would be stronger without Archer and Strickland, and it would really help if they at least acted like they wanted to win. Before Stricklands matches they would run videos of him throwing tantrums to not only stir up the crowd but to get in his head which as we know doesn't take much. It gives team Europe an edge having Earl on to bring down the rest of the team. If Archer happens to read this, "keep your kid under control". Your child blurting things out during play is not funny or cute, it is a major distraction for the team and makes the event seem unimportant.

So how come that a pedophile like you, Bumpypickle, suddenly don't like children..?

I wasn't there but I watched every single rack throughout the tournament (live pay-per-view) and I ought to agree with you -- there wasn't much 'patriotism' shown by the US team, (I recently talked with Johnny Archer about this, and also he agreed).

Although footage like this has an entertainment value (and hence attracts more viewers) to me it's a bit too tabloidish. Related to this, a couple of days ago I watched a ESPN Classic rerun where Earl got beaten in the 1993 finals by Bustamante -- and I wish the Mosconi cup would've broadcasted that post-interview of Earl being most sincere and classy (something also I've gotten a glimpse of when dealing with him personally). And I bet that would've gotten the Earl-nay-sayers something to think about as well.

If Archer happens to read this, "keep your kid under control".

You mean that you managed to slip out of your ankle-bracelet tracking device that the judge ordered you to carry...?

(By the way, for all you uptight people out there; before you go off on me being a foreign combatant communist illegal alien small penis european, remember that Chris, aka bumpypickle, and I are good friends.)

I strongly agree about the team support. They need to have their team members on the sideline along with their warrior(s) at the table. If they don't "support" their teammates at that moment, why should we ? :boring2: They need to turn up the camaderie this next go around.

I was there and I agree. The whole team should be there to watch and support their team mate while they play. I kept thinking to myself, here we all are... the fans, sitting and watching the game. While the American team mates (not all of them but most) obviously find it more interesting to be gambling in the casino, eating, drinking, sleeping, or doing whatever else they think is more important. It definitely took away from the experience.

I think you'll see a different team this year, even though it's many of the same guys. When you see you see Shane and Rodney's World Cup matches on TV soon you'll see that they had some great chemistry and camaraderie and I think that will carry on to the rest of the team this year.

you're worried about Johnny's kid????

but Drago throwing a pacifier at earl is perfectly acceptable?

That was hilarious and well deserved by Earl. I am surprised it hadn't happened long ago.

I think it was more like "stirring up some shit"!

I like America's team this year. I went last year. While JAs kid was great for TV I thought it might be a bit much.

We need to remember that it was easy for this event to have more meaning to the Euro Team than the USA team. We have dominated the series. They were put up as big underdogs.

That said I thought last year Corey had the worst attitude. He IMO has a singles mentality all the time and did not appear that he wanted to be there. He made some choices that had his teammates rolling their eyes.
JJ has experience and is very focused.

We had a down year. Thats it. I believe that this year will produce better play by both teams. Euro's team is strong and hopefully USA comes into it with a chip on their shoulder.

Who picks who

Some events determine some choices, but Charlie Williams learned who really makes the decisions when he tried to keep Earl off the team one year. That person is Berry Hearn.

Exactly. This is a commercial venture, nothing more nothing less. He failed to take over snooker so has set his cap at pool. He is well on his way to achieving it, and runs the two highest profile tournaments in the world. Earl will be picked as long as he wants to play in it because it creates interest where none would otherwise exist and therefore makes more money for Barry Hearn.

Boro Nut

Hearn knows the Mosconi Cup is a bit of a Mickey Mouse event but if he's to get sponsors, he's got to bring in the guys people pay to watch. That's why he has in the past invited Jimmy White, Alex Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan. Drago has to play if it's in Malta, Strickland is a crybaby douchebag but fun to watch melting down.

Archer the best team member?

I think you need to do some homework when it comes to who is the strongest team member. There has to be 100 other players in the country that Archer doesn't have to like to play. As the team stands, Archer and Strickland are the weak links my friend.
