casual player - someone who doesnt play often and is not very good
banger - someone who plays much more often and is not very good
This is, without a doubt, one of the saddest and most ridiculous things I've ever read about pool.
Hear hear.
I do, however, like Push&Pool's posts and threads.
I know that I am new here, but I have been a lurker for quite a while, and to be honest, I think his posts are the most entertaining ones here. Those are the ones I look for first when I come here.
Now of course the reason why Poolkillers posts are so entertaining is that he is
1) simply completely unaware of anything about the game of billiards,
2) so willing to think of himself as some kind of specialist in the game of badly played pool,
3) never willing to give up.
I hope I don't get banned for saying this, but I am going to say it anyway: Please keep posting, P&P, or Poolkiller, whatever it is. I enjoy your posts, and I enjoy the responses even more.
I can't believe so many people think there is a difference. Casual and bangers are the same. People who just play pool occasionally with friends or on dates. They have no concept of how to play or how the balls react. They are the bulk of a pool halls business.
When a banger gets bitten by the pool bug and makes an honest effort to improve, starts coming in several times a week instead of just on dates, then he's a D player.
I can't agree about his threads being entertaining. There is a fine line between entertaining and annoying, then. And, if you read between the lines of some of his recent posts you'll notice a level of sophistication that wouldn't be there if he was the banger he claims to be. Pool Killer knows the game and is not a banger, per se. He posts simply to piss people off.
If a question like "What's the difference between bangers and casual players and is there any?" pisses you off, then the problem is in you, not in the thread or in me. I suggest you take a therapy, like stress relief and rage control or something. Trolling my threads won't help you, me or anyone.
Also, I do know a few things about pool, I actually picked up most of the "sophisticated" terminology and knowledge here on the forum. That doesn't mean I can realize those things in a real match. I admit I first heard of the tangent lines a few days ago.
P.S. since you guys are constantly bringing up PoolKiller, here you go: poolkillers81@gmail.com (copied from his manual)
Maybe you can now stop annoying me and ask him whatever you need...
I wasn't referring to this thread in particular nor to the terminology you use. You're the one getting upset, not me. Much better than you have tried to piss me off and failed. Many, many people here have tried to help you and you continue to insist that you know what you're doing when the content of your posts says otherwise. Continuing to post false/useless information doesn't help your cause in the least.
Help me with what? I didn't say I need help and I never requested it. I'm mostly dealing with the problems of pool community in general, so what kind of false information am I posting? Did I ever try to teach advanced technique? And I never tried to piss you off, why would I possibly waste my time on that?
I don't know why some people are fixated on slapping "labels" on people. We've all seen bangers that were polite and cool to play with, and "serious" players that were total dickheads.
That being said, there are different types of pool players, whatever label you give them. Myself, when I think of "casual player," I think of the guy who just plays to relax, maybe has a table at home. He can make some pretty good shots, but hasn't gotten deeply enough into the game to use English, banks, positioning, etc. But overall, he plays quietly and politely, and just has a good time.
When I hear "banger" I tend to think of the guy who plays not for the satisfaction of the game itself, but as an expression of his ego. He tends to play fast and hit the ball hard, and stalks around the table like a leopard closing in for the kill. He's generally pretty rough on tables. Cusses when he misses a shot. It's all about him. Typically not pleasant to play with.
