Whats the most you've ever "gone off" for in a night?

Ok, everybody be honest here. Whats the most money you've lost in one night? Let's hear the story too.

I'd have to say the most i've went off for in a night was about $600. Me and a couple of my buddies had driven into the next state to hit up a little dive pool hall we'd been hearing had pretty goody action. We heard there was a guy there that played pretty sporty on a barbox and he'd jump on the first person to walk through the door. I had been playin great lately and decided to ride over and get in the box with him. I played a few cheap sets with him to jack the bet and then it was time to play. I was doing pretty good in the match and had the opportunity to win quite a bit of cash. i was in a good game, i was supposed to win, but i just dont know what happened. All of the sudden i just lost my gear and could'nt find it again. Knowing that i was not supposed to lose to this guy i just kept throwing sets at him until my friends dragged me away at around $600 dollar loser. To this day i fume when i think about that night and that two hour ride home when all you have to do is re-play the night in your head.

I lost $1000 one night racing my 66' Nova down on Front Street in Philly. I spun the pinion gear in the rear, and never made it off the line. i went back the next month for grudge matches and made $1250 back, only this time I had a Doug Nashe 5 speed, a spool, a Dominator, and a fogger on my stroked 327.....too sweet!....it only took 1 run to kill all my action for the rest of the night, which was fine with me!:)....That friggin car went 11.18 on street tires thru the exhaust.....ahhh the good old dayz...

Sorry to all you non motor heads.......I'm sure someone here understood my post.....:)...Gerry

Believe me, Gerry, there are some of us that enjoy hearing "That" kind of road stories.

a night to foget

We were on the road and walked into a poolroom in the deep south and a woman had just beaten this guy out of a few hundred.
I started running my mouth and finally made the statement that wasn't a woman alive I wouln't give the "7". Well, low and behold, she called my bluff and we started at $200 a game.
The first 3 games, i rattled the 6 ball and it just got real ugly from there. She then beat me 11 more in row and chose to quit when my partner promised to kill me if I racked the balls again.
Now, when asked about any of the ladies of today, I simply say,"she plays great"!
It really isn't my biggest loss, but it is the biggest I'm going to talk about until after my wife goes to bed.

I really don't lose that much but one night I lost $700. I was playing a $500 ahead set and lost. Then I played a couple of $100 sets giving the 7 ball out on a bar table. It's amazing looking back out how much money I won and had in my pocket sometimes that I haven't lost anymore than $700! Thank you lord! LOL

Wouldn't a stroked 327 no longer be a 327? A 350 perhaps?

Actually it cc'd out to about 335ci (30 over +- the stroke and cut aluminum heads), my brother builds dirt track sprint car engines, and that combo was pretty common back in 85 or so. My wifes been hounding me to get another 66' or 67' chevy II, I told her as soon as I get a table in the house!!....now you know why I married her:).Gerry

There was this road player that came into town, and word was out that he liked to play for big table time. My table time backers alerted me about it, and we set up a match. It was a race to 200 for the table time. If you win, you don't pay anything. If you lose, you pay all the table time. Everyone in town heard about this big match between me and him. We began playing Friday afternoon and ended Monday evening, I lost 200-186. Table time cost my backers $1200. My opponent sure was happy after the match, even though he didn't make anything, he sure didn't have to pay. :D

Most I ever lost in a night was 10 bucks in a race to 5. I just got into the gambling side of things and am currently taking it slow and trying to figure out who is who at the local pool room during the times I go there.

I've got a 67 Chevy II w/ a 434 small-block stroker if anyone is interested. I've driven it on maybe a 100 mile trip. Not much of a street car and doesn't run well on pump gas. 100LL works fine.

But so I'm not off topic, I lost a 16-hour 3-ahead one pocket set for $2500 to a fellow from Bennettsville, SC. Caught back up with him a few months ago and got $500 back :/

I've got a story similar to Gerry....I lost 200 that I was backing my friend on due to a nitrous backfire. It was a best of 3 races with a H/C LS1. All we had was a 02 Mustang GT with all bolt-ons and a 125 shot wet kit. It was the 3rd race and we were ahead by about 1/2 a car length. Then all of a sudden....BOOM. Needless to say, we lost the race. :( Poolwise, I think the most that I've lost is around 250.

I had a 66 SS Nova that had a 327 Mickey Thompson. Put out 365 hp. It was my favorite car. Prior to that I had a 63 Vette coupe in 1964 when I was 18. It was a piece of crap, it was too fragile. The Nova did 11.90 and was very driveable for everyday use. No car on the road could touch it at the time. Sold it after I got married in 1969 because my wife could not drive a stick. 2 years later she learned how to drive a stick by driving my Harley and then all she ever wanted was a car with a manual transmission plus she wanted her own bike. If I could find that same exact car today I would snap it up, but in reallity the good old days are gone.

I wonder if I might have run into you...

I used to do Front St. in the 80's. I had a black 70 Challenger, 440 w/single Holley Dominator, direct port gasser, Torqueflite w/8" converter, cut down Ford 9" rear with a Detroit locker, tubbed wheels. I would run 11 flat or 10.9's if someone that could cut a better light drove, on big Mickey T street tires and dual 3 1/2" exhaust w/ Flowmaster mufflers.

You sure you was running 11.18 with a small block?! ;)

We may have seen eachother.....that was back when the Peurto Rican guys were coming out with the "zingers" as we called em, the Mazdas that revved to the moon!. I used to trailer the car down and park in the stadium lot. Then hit Front st., or Delaware ave.

Yea man , that deuce went a best of 10.83 in track trim, glass tilt front end, 8"slicks, liquid nitrogen fuel cooler, all that stuff.....I liked it best in street trim, just roll up to the line, heat em up, and blaze low 11's all afternoon. I have to give my brother most of the credit, he tuned it, set the shift lite, and said, DONT OVER REV IT OR I'll KILL YOU!.:).......Gerry

My car was hard to miss. Not too many guys that had a Challenger with a narrowed rear and wheelie bars. I used to do rolling "funny car style" burnouts when I was feeling like making some noise.

I didn't use a fuel cooler, the Nitrous did a good enough job of that. Besides, it's amazing that you could run what you say with a small block AND a stick shift! It doesn't matter how fast someone can shift, you're not outshifting an auto trans. You lose momentum everytime you shift gears.

Oh well, enough of the good ol days. It was fun at the time.

Hi Eric,
I was just looking at some old pics last night, trying to find your car,...no luck yet. I did find one of a tubbed purple Demon I raced twice one night....that was as close as it gets.....we called it even. That friggin car hung the wheels!!!

I learned to race from Grumpy Jenkins.....My father knew him well, and everyone knows he loves shoebox Novas, so he took me under his wing. He said if he did'nt help me , I was gonna kill myself:)

One of his guys set up my clutch and Doug Nashe 5 speed, you only had to use the clutch coming outta the hole, after that you just yanked gears. I went with a stick cause it had 513 gears, and the 5th gear gave me an over drive for the street..............I"m gonna go do burnouts in my pickup truck now:).....Gerry

BTW, sorry for highjackin your post, when it comes to old girlfriends and older cars, I can't help myself......Gerry

***Mine was a flat black car with fiberglass hood, fenders and bumpers. I would stop in from time to time because I lived over an hour away, in NJ

I learned to race from Grumpy Jenkins.....My father knew him well, and everyone knows he loves shoebox Novas, so he took me under his wing. He said if he did'nt help me , I was gonna kill myself:)

*** Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins was/is a legend. It's awesome that he took time away from his racing activities to work with you.

One of his guys set up my clutch and Doug Nashe 5 speed, you only had to use the clutch coming outta the hole, after that you just yanked gears.

***I was only making a note that unless you were running a Lenko trans, there is nno way you can shift a stick, especially a Nash, wihtout some kind of delay between shifts. An auto trans is always pulling. Didn't Grumpy teach you anything? ;)

My Chevy Blazer can only do burnouts if there is snow on the ground, but when it snows, I'll do one for you.
