Of me keeping my cue companion lathe? I completely stopped using it since I got my big lathe a year ago. I don't bother even doing tips on it anymore because I'm not happy with it's performance when compared against the big lathe. I'm considering selling it and replacing it with another bigger lathe. Does anyone know what this thing is worth? I think I over paid at $1100 about 2 years ago.

For those without a small lathe, what do you use to put wraps on? I was thinking of making a small lathe for that using a sewing machine motor.

(I'll appologise in advance of my smart ass comment ... Sorry Glen) You might want to keep this in case your big lathe has problems ;)

Seriously though, I often find that having multiple machines allows me to work faster, by not having to change set-ups for every job. Of course you have to value your time over the space and cost of extra machines. If the time to set up a machine is not a big concern, then one machine will do the job.

There may be some active home-machinist type groups in Windsor or Detriot, perhaps you could find a friend to help fix the big lathe. A post on rcm might help find that friend. Good luck with the lathe, I know your pain having spent many evenings fixing a machine that I had planned on actually using. :mad:

I know, that's why I need another BIG lathe! I think it'll be more beneficial for me to have another larger lathe than the cue companion. I am always setting my lathe up to all the different tasks necessary. The only thing I could imagine the cue companion useful to me is cleaning cues and doing wraps. Otherwise I never use it.

BTW - I got an electician coming out to look at my lathe, I can't be without it very long otherwise I go through withdrawals.

I think Brent (stix4sale) uses his cue companion for doing his wraps :D ..... which are quite nice a may add :rolleyes:

This is a new hobby for me but, I would tend to agree that having multiple lathes being setup for different functions is very helpful!

If you don't need a portable one or can do house cues on another lathe, you have no need for the CC.
Unless you do tournament repairs too.
 
Most cuemakers want all the machinery they can get their hands on. Even if you just do sanding, or wraps, or tips on a individual machine. I suggest you keep the lathe, so when the BIG LATHE goes down, you have a back up ;) Which package do you have? Did you purchase it from Unique Products? If you give those details you will get a better response on the value of the machine. Used machinery sells very quickly, so sell it off, so someone can use it for repair.

Well, I don't mean to sound negative on the cue companion, it has many uses in the shop. But when I look at it and see all the $$$ I spent, and now I only use it for wraps, sanding. It's an expensive tool for WHAT I use it for. It would definately be useful for someone else. I'm still pondering the idea. I'm getting email already from people who want to buy it. But if I sell just the machine, Cutters, maintenance kit, Chuck, iron, and the rubber things. What would it be worth? I'm basically excluding the taps, drill bits, and linen press. Not sure what else I'm missing.

Still do not know what package it is? Did you buy it from Unique? Which motor, and options do you have?
