Whats The Right Shot?

In a tournament today my opponent missed a tough 9-ball and left me like this:

START(
%IO4Z9%PO4Y7

)END

The 9 is frozen to the rail so I can't just tap the ball and leave him the same shot. I really had no idea what to do. There is no bank, and the cueball is not frozen to the 9 but there is no way to thin the 9 without selling out. I stood there for about two minutes and opted to kick it short-side hitting it pretty hard. Of course I sold out and I lost that game. I also considered jacking up almost completely vertical and drawing the cueball straight back from the object ball to the opposite rail, but it looked like I was going to double hit the CB like that. Whats the right shot?

I would play a kinda safety.Thin hit the nine on the right side and left the cb on the head rail with a kinda hard bank.Or try to bank it with high inside and bank it in the corner.

I don't see what you're talking about...can you make a diagram?

It's a tricky shot, but I might play this masse, aiming very fine on the 9-ball so as to move it as little as possible. It will leave a tricky bank.

lololol YOU'RE SCREWED! Seriously, this is simply one of those situations where no matter what you do, there's a good chance you're going to lose. So, with that in mind, I'd probably club the hell out of the thing and see what happens.

Thats the shot I was talking about.

You could do the exact opposite and play left hit upper endrail and come up table and leave a hard bank.

Yeah, it's a hanger. I'd pay you if you'd let me shoot this shot.

That was ridiculous in the movie!

Background: He took the other guys shot and just set it up for himself, and then played again, insisting that it was now his turn to shoot.

As if anyone would accept that that comment as meaning that. Only an idiot would have accepted that. The other guys should have beaten him up for such a stupid and dishonest attampt to con, and taken his money for trying to cheat on a reasonable bet.

He's lying! He'd shoot it just like colin showed, only trying to leave it like this
START(
%IO4Z9%PO4Y7%Qb7C2%Wd6D4%Xs4P0%eA4a0%_s5Q8%`k0W4%aP2Y6

Tough leave ...

Super tough leave ...

I think I would try this leave, just barely nicking 9 ball, using
low left english (pulling it), and spinning the cue a lot to
try to get these results:

START(
%IO4Z9%PO4Y7%UD9Y8%VM0Z0%WO2O4%XO4X4%_q9L9%`N0Z0%aC6Z2

)END

That leaves a low percentage shot.

hope it wasn't hill/hill.............cause you're fucked. just one of those times where you have to make the best possible shot you can think of, and hope you get lucky.

There is an absolutely standard reply to this, one that I use often:

Throw out a few choice explitives. Mutter about your opponents lucky rolls and your hapless unanswered prayers. Look at the crowd, hoping to find a "yes man" to discuss it with. Shake your head in disbelief. Do the "palm up flip (do it, you'll know what I'm talking about).

Then, fire a bank, but be prepared for the ol' "nice try."

You're screwed.

Well, might as well throw a fantasy in:

Kissback and leave him the tweener bank.

)END

This is about the best you can hope for.

Are these balls frozen? Looks like it. Stroke through frozen balls and make the cb and ob go to opposite short rails. From my computer chair, it looks like I would have a real chance at that :)

If they are not froze, double kisses can also be controlled (just watch some good 1 pocket players) which may also be an option...

He kicks the cue ball around 3 or 4 rails and cuts the 9 ball down the rail where it stops just short of the pocket. Then, he says, since he just took the other guys shot, its his turn to shoot, and he sinks the duck 9-ball. As colin says, it's a horrible plot, but it is a really nice shot, and it would have gone in if he had intended to sink it instead of playing the stupid con.
