What's with Jayson Shaw?

Dude either flakes out and seems to lose interest or completely destroys everyone. If he ever gets his mental game together he could be WC no problem. He's easily one of the most talented shooters I've ever seen. His position is sometimes a bit suspect, but he can get out from anywhere. He's unreal when he catches that gear.

Um he is world class. He's out there playing and winning.

His race to 100 vs SVB with the day 2 comeback was insane. It would have been so easy to quit down big day 1. He nearly beat him.

There's a lot of great players and only a few big events so you can't win everything. He won back to back Turning Stone events. He looked like an absolute monster each time. When he beat Mika in the finals he crushed him, Mika had nothing for him.

Jayson is obviously a top pro player, but IMO he shoots too fast. When he shoots fast and runs out, it looks great. But nobody runs out every time. If he could harness his ability a little bit better and eliminate some simple, unforced errors caused by shooting too fast, he would be even better.

Just watched him play Earl in the Ginky Memorial, Earl didn't like it. Looked pretty formidable to me.

Great shooter....

He is sure capable of shooting great pool and when he is on fire I like his tempo. At my age i have come to realize the difference in some players. I mean many players have the capability to pocket balls and make it look easy.

What separates the top 10 or so players from the pack is the dedication to consistently grinding it out and never ever giving up in a match. Efren, Shane, Busty, Alex, the older Ko brother, I know I left out several. They are true dedicated professional billiard players and almost always keep themselves in check emotionally and mentally so they can get the win.

How many times have we watched the guy who was arguably one of the best to pick up a cue self destruct? The Pearl had it all and often self destructed.

Just my 2 cents guys.

Agreed.

In the Ginky Memorial match yesterday Earl lost to Shaw hill hill. The score was 5 to 4 Earl. He had a straight 8 bank cross table into the corner but chose a safe behind 9 about 5 inches behind it. He let Shaw jump it and shoot the 8 diagonally full table into corner maybe 13 feet...of course he made it. He never should have passed on the 8 bank it was a simple shot. If he played safe then get cue ball close to 9.

So it's now Shaw on the hill with 7 and Earl has 5. Earl starts yapping to the crowd about jump cues and gets it hill hill. Shaw wins the set and Earl is pissed.

Shaw could surely learn to play safes tighter but it's just not his nature. When he wins, it's often in dominating fashion even versus the best in the world. He's so young and talented, without a doubt the player with the most potential in the US to become the Alpha dog.

In full agreement with this. Tons of upside.

When you play at his tempo with the conviction that you can execute anything...when something goes haywire, it just looks like he doesn't care. In reality it's just his style. A more telling factor is how badly he can beat the best players. In a couple more years, nobody will touch him. Just my gut, but look out.

A few months ago Jayson said he was selling his Diamond, quitting pool, and getting a Chinese 8 ball table. What happened to that?

When Shaw misses, he looks like he didn't give the shot enough consideration.....
....but when he makes everything, he shoots the same way.
...you gotta dance with the one you came with.

Lou Butera could run hundreds and win world titles shooting like Shaw...
...if either tried to play like someone else, they'd be lesser talents.
