What's With My Cue??

So I bought a Joss JX-02 online at Billiard warehouse. I took it in to see if I could get it reduced from 19oz to 18oz. The guy took the bumper off and told me that there is no weight bolts in the back and that it was probably originally a 20 and they just took out one of the weights to make it 19.25oz. Does that affect the play of the cue if there is no weight in the back? Should I complain to Billiards warehouse? Will I ever be able to reduce it to 18 oz? I need some expertise on what I should do.

Its all personal preference. I dont like weights bolts becuase I like the pivot point of the cue farther forward.

It would be tough to get it to where you want it although it could be done by a cuemaker. It would have to be cored or somthing of that sort and would cost some good $$ for that cue.

But is there anything wrong with what Billiard warehouse did with it, is it sort of shady to do that or isn't it? What I'm trying to ask is did they try to get away with something?

How is it shady if you ordered a 19oz cue and received a 19oz cue? I would rather have a cue without a weight bolt anyway. It gives the cue a more forward balance.

The thing is, I've been shooting very well with it for the past week. So I guess I have no gripes.

majority if not all of production cues use a weight bolt. they add one in or take it out to get the desired weight. take in consideration the balance also changes with the weight.

I doubt Billiard Warehouse would have done anything shady. I've bought most of my pool stuff from them. The prices, and the service from Greg Savoie, have always been excellent, so I keep coming back.

You might want to email Billiard Warehouse and ask if you have any concerns about the cue. Also, they have a "try a cue guarantee", so if its been less than 5 days, you can exchange it you don't like it. Even if they don't stock the weight you want, they can probably get it, as long as Joss makes it.

Good luck, and welcome to AzBilliards!

They probably did you a favor by having the bolt taken out.
My guess is, the cue is balanced better.
Keep shooting with it and you will get used to the extra weight.

i guess they could have shipped the bolt with the cue incase you wanted it a little heavier

Yeah I'm already used to it and I don't think I want to go any lower than 19oz anyway. I like how the cue is balanced and feels too. Plus I have the option of adding more weight in the future if needed. Thanks for everybodys feedback.

I say you should get yourself a 1 oz weight bolt and install it. You say you are playing fine with it now which leads me to believe that 18 oz is too light for you. If 20 oz is too heavy you can always remove the weight bolt but at least you will know for sure.
I always thought 19.5 was optimum for me until a added a Universal Smart shaft to my Joss. It brought the weight up to 20.1 and I ain't looking back. The shaft alone weighs 4.55 oz.

Mess around as much as possible and you will find the ideal weight / balance for you. Sounds like you've got a great starting point right now.

Joss doesn't use a weight bolt at the back of the cue, like many others. If I'm not mistaken the rubber bumper is threaded. At least all mine are threaded.
I'm not saying they don't use a weight bolt, which they do, It's just not at the very back of the cue where the rubbber bumper is. It's 6 or 7 inches deep.

The Cue was designed so that the shaft balanced with the butt weight based on the overall Cues weight? So in this case it sounds as if this cuemaker makes all cues the same and then uses the weight to differentiate the requested overall weight causing each Cues balance point to vary according to its selected butt bolt???

Absolutely correct. Mine is way down in there and I added some tungsten owder to bring the weight up a little.
