What's your choice of tip(s) and why?

This has mostly been discussed everywhere or all over. :)

Let me start:

Moori III Meduim and Talisman Pro Meduim for my players cue. I like the way it hits and it's consistency.

Moori III Quick and Talisman WB Hard for my Break Cue. I have it flat and again the quality is consistent.

These tips has not mushroomed and/or break apart.
 
On all of the playing cues i have had, i always went with a Le-Pro, and the 1 5280 i had, i kept the Tiger Redline tip on it and really liked the tip too.


But i like the le-pro tip, its not super hard like a Moori Hard, or a Water Buffalo. Also isnt so soft that it mushrooms all the time.
 
you gusy might be able to help me with a problem. I bought a predator cue a few months ago with a Z shaft. I have used the same tip it came with since but I recently had to replace it. I bought some moori med and elk master (similar to snooker tips) from the states a while back. However the moori med feel terribly light and my friend tried them and said they feel like a sponge (he's a snooker player) and I thought they did feel SO light. Therefore I decided to put an elk on and it hits terribly and feels really hard. I have always played with a snooker cue and a blue diamond tip. Does anyone reccoment a good tip that is similar? Or do you know what tip my predator z shaft would have come with as standard as that hit ok?

honestly ,are you certain you got the tips you think you got ??
an elkmaster that feels hard ?????
and a moori med that feels like a sponge ????

while i dont think a moori med plays that all hard i think one of
its benefits is that it allows for the good things of a softer to medium tip
like holds chalk great , doesnt miscue , slightly more spin on cueball
but it also has some of the benefits of a hard like it installs nice and clean
with the sides nicely burnished , holds it shape like a harder tip to with little mushrooming or flatening and next to none after its about a week old

Yeah pretty sure they are correct, the moori are flat both sides and feel VERY light in the hand. The ELKS are as expected and similar to the snooker elks. I have knocked it in over a few days but it plays terrible. I haven't put a moori on my cue yet as I was so put off by what my friend said. He put a moori hard on and ripped i off because he felt it played like a "sponge!". Having felt how light it was in my hand it put me off trying it, even though I have heared great things about the mediums. DO you think I should give the mediums a go then? (given that Ive played all my life with a blue diamond?
 
If the "moori" you got are sponglike they are not Moori tips. A Moori medium is impossible to indent with your fingernail , a elkmaster is not. There are alot of fake Moori going around and seriously if you are saying your Moori are "spongelike" you got conned by whoever sold them to you because they are not Moori. I have a Moori slow/soft on my playing cues right now and they are noticably harder then a Elkmaster.
 
TheOne, I use exactly the same equipment you do. When I first got my Z shaft, it came with a LePro tip. That's right, the most expensive shaft out there comes with such a cheap product. Mine lasted only 3 weeks, I chopped it off with my finger. It also mushroomed quite badly.

So I put on a Moori Quick (the hardest version of Moori II) on it as I did with my previous shafts. It has a letter "Q" on it and layers are very easy to spot. Plays great, doesn't mushroom and you barely need any shaping at all. It might be too hard for some, so to them I would recommend Moori Medium or maybe Sniper (blue-green'ish looking like it's been chalked already with many layers). There are also new Moori III tips with different designations, but I'm sure other posters know more about them.

Are there specific snooker tips? Maybe hard layerd tips wouldn't work well on a 9mm snooker shaft? I'm puzzled as to why snooker players use soft tips...
 
I have always used and prefered the LePro tip. I have had a Talisman Pro Medium on my cue for about 6 weeks now and really like it. I have also used the Moori's, Triangle and WB and now prefer the Talisman Pro Medium tip.
I have some of the new Ohuro (sp) tips that were offered here on AZ. I'm going to put one of those on one of my cues and see what I think of them.

I replaced the LePro that came with my Predator3k1+314 with a Sniper. That was now more than a year ago. I have had to roughen the tip 2 times since then and never shape it for mushrooming. Very happy with the tip.
I believe Sniper is comparable to Moori Medium from the little experience I've had trying friends cue with it.

I've have liked Mooris since they came out. I have tried a lot of tips since then and keep coming back to the Mooris. They are more consistant than any other tip I have ever used. I prefer a softer tip, and the Moori Slows are perfect for the feel I like.

Although I have never played with a Moori I can honestly say that my favorite tip is a $15 Triangle. Mike Webb installs them for me with the little fiber pads and I love the hit and never miscue.

I've been playing with moori 3 med. I think it is a little hard for me. Do you have to shape the softs much? I would like to switch, but don't want to have to shape it all the time and replace it often..
 
Moori III S ( slow = soft ) on my normal cues because I am a consistent over user of english. I prefer the way they handle.

Breaking cue has a one piece phenolic ferrule / tip. The jury is still out on that one.

I like how hard the break feels, but it is very unforgiving if you don't hit square.

well since ya asked....

:) after many years of shooting with Le pros and Triangles I have ventured into the murky world of layered and am presently using a Talisman med on one of my every day cues a older Mali so far so good it holds up astonishingly well with virtually no maintenance and is hitting and performing well! :D

I played with and liked the Elks. I replaced mine about a year and a half ago with a Moori and hated it. I miscued frequently. I replaced the Moori with a Sniper. It hits great, and never miscues. I think using the Elk (since it's so soft) allowed me to get farther out on teh edge of the cue ball, and the Sniper is the only other tip that I have seen that allows that.

Get about 3-4 rectal thermometers and break them in half. Pour out the mercury and soak the light weight tips in them for a few days. They should no longer be light, but if they still shoot shitty it might be for another reason. :p :D
 
I use a dime shaped Moori III Q (hard) tip on my playing cue (Predator 314 shaft). I like the Moori because it is like a "low pile" carpeting as compared with leather which is more like shag carpeting. I feel that a Moori tip gets a better grip on the ball, especially when using extreme english/follow/draw. I like the hard tip because I don't need to re-shape it very often, so my tip lasts longer.

I use a quarter shaped Tiger break/jump tip on my break cue because it is as hard as possible, yet still allows me to use english/follow/draw if I want when breaking.

I use a dime shaped phenolic tip on my jump cue because it works the best.

I use a nickel shaped Triangle tip on my Masse cue because that is what came with it and it works fine. (If it works, don't fix it.)
